About Me

I am a highly skilled and empathic tutor with a PhD in Neuroscience/Computer Science, boasting a multifaceted research background that encompasses digital signal processing, metadata watermarking of high-definition audio, and the perceptual effects of infrasound/ultrasonic audio on humans through EEG analysis. My work leverages virtual and augmented reality environments to not only explore the transmission and perception of embedded metadata but also to investigate environmental infrasound/ultrasonic transmissions with both urban and marine focuses. Armed with solid programming expertise in Matlab and Python, I apply machine learning techniques to study acoustic reverberation. My excellent communication skills are demonstrated through my extensive experience in delivering seminars, academic talks, and hands-on workshops on a variety of subjects, including IoT, web development, and digital signal processing.

Currently, I lecture at Kent University and Canterbury Christchurch University, and have co-founded 'The Lαβ' project, which blends science with creativity through EEG analysis. My global teaching experience includes a massive online course for over 25,000 students and years of mentoring PhD students. My academic contributions span bioinformatics, imaging fundamentals, forensics, cybersecurity, and more. My academic journey is supported by degrees in Biomedical Science and Marine Biology from Anglia Ruskin University and University College of Swansea, respectively, culminating in a groundbreaking PhD focused on the psychoacoustic perception and transmission of Sonic QR Codes.

Tutor Experience

I currently lecture at Kent University and Canterbury Christchurch University, and am involved with a number of programming-based courses and hands-on workshops. Teaching modules include: IoT, Web Development/ Javascript coding, Java/ Python coding and Digital Signal Processing.

My other teaching and research focus is 'The Lαβ', where we fuse science with creativity and personal reflection using EEG (Electroencephalogram) analysis.

I have delivered global face-to-face and virtual Bioinformatics courses for the Wellcome Genome Campus Advanced Courses team. Teaching postgraduate and post-doctoral students from every continent. My largest course delivery was on the FutureLearn platform for over 25000 students!

I have also trained groups on Imaging Fundamentals using Laser Confocal Microscopy within Cambridge University for approximately fifteen years, while mentoring PhD students while working as a Research Associate within the Department of Veterinary Medicine. Continuing this theme I supervised and guided PhD project work at Anglia Ruskin University, Cambridge; while undertaking my own PhD research.

I have also been an ad-hoc trainer for IT courses at the formerly-named University Computing Service at Cambridge University. Here I was involved in a number of courses including SPSS, STATA, Dreamweaver, Photoshop, Microsoft Office and PHP. More recently I have been involved in a one-to-one teaching capacity at GCSE, A level and undergraduate level, teaching mathematics, biology, forensics and criminal investigation and computer science.

Other specialisms include: Forensics and Criminal Investigation, Forensic Audio, Cybersecurity, Deep Learning and Object Detection.
