I am a professional tutor who graduated from Cambridge with a 1st class BA degree and an MPhil in Education and Literature - I have been tutoring ever since.

I have a BA in philosophy with first-class honours from the University of York, and an MA from the University of Birmingham. A number of my papers have been published, and I was previously an editor of a philosophical journal.

I have been tutoring for over 20 years and was Head of Department and teacher of English in a leading online school for ten years. I have taught all aspects of English Language and Literature from providing assistance at undergraduate level, through A Levels and GCSEs, down to KS1. What I love about tutoring one-to-one is the building up of a personal relationship with a student and seeing them gain confidence and develop. I have been teaching and tutoring for five years now and have acquired a wide range of teaching experiences and skills. I began when I was still at school by tutoring a GCSE history student whilst I was doing my A-Levels. I also volunteered at an after-school homework club. I would tutor the children on an individual basis, helping them with their homework and keeping track of their progress. I also began to take up classroom teaching jobs, going to Kenya in partnership with the charity Hand-in-Hand to teach English, History and Politics to 14-17 year old students at Mogonjet School.
At university I continued to pursue teaching opportunities teaching at the Keio Summer School for Japanese university students each summer of my undergraduate degree, in which I taught history, debating and drama. I have also continued to pursue teaching opportunities abroad, completing the six week i-Learner internship in Hong Kong in the summer of 2018, in which I taught 12 to 18 year old’s a wide range of topics. In the summer of 2019 I did the Educamp internship in Beijing. I taught at three ten-day camps at Camford Royal School, teaching history, creative writing and sports. I also helped to tutor my Camford home room students for the "My Dream" speech competition in which students competed for a multi-thousand pound scholarship to the school by giving a speech in English about their life goals. The students that I tutored came first and second place.
I have also continued as an individual tutor. During the spring of 2019 I worked for CamExpress, an online tutoring company based in Shanghai. I taught online lessons and created online lectures for 16-18 year-old students who were considering applying to Oxbridge for university, as well as giving advice about the Oxford application process.
I have over eight years experience tutoring for the 7+, 8+, 9+, 10+, 11+ and Common Entrance exams in Maths, English, Verbal and Non-Verbal Reasoning.

I'm passionate about nurturing the potential of each student with whom I have the privilege of working. With over 10 years' experience as a Learning Coach with countless individuals and groups, Diploma in Life Coaching as well as a successful university graduate (1st class hons in Philosophy) and additional Masters research degree in Developmental Psychology, I previously taught at Secondary school and most recently trained nursing professionals to pass their IELTS exams.
I am also a regular public speaker and workshop leader in the private health sector, delivering courses in areas from stress-management and communication skills, to self-care and personal development.
Professional teaching experience
I am a professional teacher of English, with 4 years of experience in both state and independent sectors. In my teacher training (through the prestigious Teach First Leadership Development Programme), I gained a distinction, and have been promoted every year of my teaching career. In my previous school, I ran staff training sessions to improve teaching practice for high ability students, and worked as a coach for fellow teachers. I have taught GCSE, IGCSE, A Level and IB qualifications, as well as coaching and mentoring students through UCAS and Oxbridge Entrance. In my teaching role until now I have had little time for paid tuition, but working on-on-one with students outside of class time is part of my daily practice as a teacher, especially when students are struggling or need extra challenge. I have worked extensively with a wide range of ages (11-18) and abilities, as well as with SEN and EAL students.
Paid tuition work outside of teaching
Currently, I tutor one student outside of school as she has needed extra support due to English being her second language. Previously, I tutored a student on creative writing techniques - this is a particular interest of mine.
Having taught English full-time at senior school, I have a good knowledge of mainstream schooling and curricula, as well as experience in the classroom. I have taught IGCSE, A-Level and to all ages from 9-18, as well as Beginners’ Latin.
I tutored undergraduates in academic writing, structuring arguments and analysis at Edinburgh University.
I am currently an MPhil graduate and PhD candidate at Cambridge, researching the poetry of David Jones.
