I took my undergraduate degree at Oxford, then a masters and PhD in London. When I was a Postdoctoral Fellow of the British Academy I realised my vocation as a tutor and teacher. I trained as a school teacher and have enjoyed teaching 11-18 year old in schools in the state and independent sector.
I have published articles in top rated journals and most recently in the E-magazine of the English Media Centre, aimed at A Level students.
Writing poetry is another passion, but I'm not published, yet! And I really enjoy teaching Swedish and Norwegian dance!

As a mature student, Michael has helped me rewrite the average A levels i achieved whilst in sixth form; elevating me from a C/D grade candidate to somebody who has now achieved an A grade. He offers exceptional and keen insight into the set texts and is adept in giving relevant information and pointers in regards to wider literature which has helped me expand my knowledge beyond the texts and led to me gaining those higher marks.
He is also extremely flexible and accommodating in regards to organising tuition around my working life, and has often given up weekends in order to support my learning. For this i am extremely grateful! Along with his affable personality and great patience i would highly recommend Michael to learners of all ages; he is a great investment towards improving your educational prospects and marks.
The class with Michael is inspiring and very helpful. He has an amazing approach and patience to a student.
Very helpful and personable!
Michael is a great tutor, very patient and emphatic. His lessons are very
inspiring and his wide knowledge is so impressive! My daughter is very pleased with her lessons and happy to continue. with Michael.
Really helpful and patient
Great class - thanks!
Poems are not intuitive to my son. Michael has helped him appreciate them more over the last few months.
Very informative and very patient tutor.
Good first impression. Obviously a one hour frame is extremely narrow, therefore perfecting the exhibition will require much longer; looking toward to future lessons:)
