I am a qualified teacher currently doing a PhD in Ancient History at the University of Birmingham. I completed my PGCE in Classics at the University of Sussex, where I received a distinction, before retuning to my own education.
My research focuses on Roman Spectacle and how it has been viewed throughout time. I have just completed my Masters and received a Distinction. My dissertation focused on the incorporation of gladiatorial combat in 21st century Science-Fiction films, focusing on The Hunger Games franchise and Thor: Ragnarok.
I worked at a summer school for a couple of months in Shanghai and received my TEFL. I have worked as a tutor online for the last two years on a number of websites
I qualified from the University of Sussex in 2018 with a Distinction in Classics teacher training. During that year I taught at a secondary school and a sixth form college, teaching GSCE Latin and Classics, A level Classics, and running group revision/ review sessions for the students.
I have taught abroad in Namibia (2013 - 2014), and in China (Summer of 2016). During my time in China I was teaching at an English summer camp and I received my TEFL (Teaching English as a Foreign Language).
Currently I am a full time PhD Ancient History researcher. I also work part time as a supply teacher for the local schools.
For the last couple of years I have done online tutoring on a range of websites, mainly introduction to Latin or Latin grammar revision, as well as a focus on helping students improve their essay writing techniques
My primary subject area is Classical Civilisation/ Ancient History. I personally took the Classics GCSE and A level, and have taught both. I have also taught GCSE Latin. My Latin level reaches roughly an A level standard (I am currently teaching myself further Latin knowledge).
I also did an English literature A level and received an A. Due to my University career being primarily essay based I am very experienced in how to set out a good essay, how it should be structured, the sorts of language and techniques that need to be employed. I am also very organised and have helped numerous people in unofficial capacities at the University to learn the best techniques for how to go about planning/ writing an essay or revision techniques.
Whilst I may not be an expert in a particular subject, I would feel confident looking at a piece of work from an essay structure point of view, and giving feedback/ advice on how this can be improved
Very happy with the lesson and would like to continue weekly lessons.
Very happy, thank you, it was really helpful
Thanks Hebe. very helpful
Hebe helped me plan and understand a complicated question for an essay.
Thank you so much Hebe for your professionalism. Your patience in going over the work Rachel has covered out of class was extremely beneficial to her!
Hebe makes the subjects she teaches engaging and enjoyable!
