When I'm not tutoring, I'm often found wading into the sea or a flooded quarry, decked out in full SCUBA gear. I love diving, and in the time I've been qualified I've been lucky enough to dive in all kinds of places, including with dolphins and manta rays! While there's nothing so exotic in southern England, there's still an amazing variety of marine life lurking down in the depths - which I get up close and personal with!
During my undergraduate degree, I tutored students in lower years and ran a series of departmental seminars to encourage learning "beyond the textbook." I think it's important to help students make links not just between the subjects they study, but to real-world applications - a component sometimes missing in the high-pressure, rapid-paced school environment. Most crucially, I remember how stressful preparation for GCSEs and A-levels can be- and the tips and tricks students can employ to not only do well in the exam, but to really understand the material.
I am confident working with students of all abilities, particularly those who are motivated but lack confidence in their ability to tackle mathematics and the physical sciences. I am also interested in tutoring students who could benefit from a little extra support with their studies, as well as those who are seeking to be challenged beyond the school curriculum.
