I teach IB DP Marine Science and MYP Integrated Sciences at an International School in The Bahamas.
I completed my BSc and MRes in the United Kingdom, where I also completed my initial teacher training (PGCE).
I emigrated to Canada in 2018 where I worked in outdoor and experiential education as a ski instructor and marine science field trip leader.
In 2020 I moved to The Bahamas where I taught marine ecology and a field based research class at a residential semester school. Since 2023 I have been teaching in an international school.
My educational philosophy is that academic progress and success are best achieved when student individuality is valued, through formative assessment and a flexible approach adapted to the individual learner.
I have worked with students in a variety of educational settings; I have experience teaching in a traditional science classroom, providing one-to-one tutoring, and leading outdoor experiential marine science field trips.
I currently teach the IB DP Marine Science syllabus, and MYP Integrated Sciences at an International School in The Bahamas.
I completed my initial teacher training in the UK where I taught A-Level Biology, GCSE Biology, Chemistry and Physics (dual award) and Key Stage 3 Science.
While teaching in a UK comprehensive school I provided after school intervention and support sessions for students who were below their target grade or otherwise struggling in science. Many of my students had missed almost an entire year of their science schooling due to long term staffing shortages. I am experienced in identifying barriers to learning and providing kind encouragement to learners who have lost their confidence.
I have experience working with students with specific learning support needs, and adapting and differentiating materials to make learning accessible and to support progress for all. My students tell me I am kind, patient and sincere. I enjoy problem solving with my students to identify the obstacles and barriers preventing them from succeeding, and then working to overcome these together.
