My background is in academic science, after completing my master’s degree in chemistry, I conducted research in supramolecular chemistry for four years at doctoral level, during which time I supervised two master’s research projects. In 2017 I moved into full time tutoring and quickly established a large base of regular students. I really enjoy the opportunities tutoring offers in working with a variety of people and academic levels; no two students work in the same way and finding the correct approach and series of explanations to ensure that they achieve their best is very important to me.
I have several students outside my direct academic background in chemistry and am able to quickly assimilate amd understand new science concepts and courses, which enables me to offer support in a variety of related fields.
By identifying areas for improvement, I like working with my students to develop a plan to increase their knowledge and understanding of a subject and in doing so increase their general academic confidence. I am proud of the successes my students have been able to achieve and look forward to continuing this with any future students who may wish to work with me.
As a private tutor, I have taught Chemistry at all levels from undergraduate and master’s at university level to GCSE and A-level at school level; I also cover all aspects of GCSE/A-level Biology and Maths.
My specialist topics for teaching at university level are Organic and Physical Chemistry, including Supramolecular Chemistry and Spectroscopy, reflecting my academic background. I am happy to work with potential students in other areas, after discussing what these may be and how I can help. Additionally, I have experience teaching chemistry-related subjects at university level, including Chemical Engineering, Nuclear Engineering, fundamentals of biochemistry and pharmacy etc.
Aside from offering standard tutorials, I have a lot of experience in degree level dissertation structuring and proof-reading, from undergraduate to doctoral theses. Recent undergraduate theses were awarded first class marks and my last doctoral thesis passed with no corrections.
My approach is extremely patient and we always work together at the pace which is most appropriate for you; whether that means you would like help increasing your confidence in your subject (generally or for working towards resits, for example) or that you want that extra push to attain the highest possible marks, or anything in between.
Undergraduate-level Chemistry and its closely related subjects (e.g. I have tutored subjects such as Nuclear Chemical Engineering); my current university students are looking at 2nd-year physical chemistry, master's year coordination chemistry, 3rd-year Organic Chemistry.
A Level Chemistry (all boards and subjects), though I have several students working on the maths/physical areas of this specifically, alongside working on exam technique.
I have a lot of patience and enjoy working with students who want to push for top grades, or who are struggling and would benefit from having concepts explained in a manner that suits their understanding.
