I am a historian of the British Empire and India, working towards my PhD at Oxford University. I love history and sharing all the sights and sounds and colours of the past, while also teaching students just how fun, engaging and stimulating great history writing is.
I have worked in a great school in India, and am currently working as a Sub-Dean in St. Edmund Hall in Oxford. I am particularly committed to student welfare and support, and am always open and available for all concerns, both academic and otherwise.
I am a huge Tolkien nerd, and would buy every Lego Star Wars set if I had the money
I have two years of online teaching experience, working with students at every level. In addition to this, I taught for many years in (top-ranked) international school in India, teaching the international A-levels syllabus. The great thing about history is that it can be the history of anything, and so I am more than able to tutor in English, politics, sociology, government, citizenship and even world religions!
Having taught in India, I have gained in experience in teaching students from a broad range of backgrounds, both educational and personal, and am particularly suited to guiding those coming from academic backgrounds that place less emphasis on critical thinking and personal expression, and helping them meet the rigour of the A-level, IB or Pre-U.
I have particular at improving essay writing-skills. I have a well structured and proven programme in how to improve structure, argument, evidence and conclusions for essay writing across all disciplines. As an Oxbridge graduate and former College Counsellor I can also provide advice and guidance for those going through the interview process.
Many of my former students, tutees and those I guided through admissions are now studying in the most prestigious Universities in the world including Yale, Princeton, the LSE, KCL, Oxford and Cambridge
I was recently contacted by my former tutor, Professor Sunil Khilnani, the Director of the India Institute at King's College London, to work as his teaching assistant on a University-organised online programme. I helped him design and deliver a Masters-level module on Indian history to a class of more than fifty students, spread over three continents!
I am also currently enrolled on the Graduate Tutor training programme at Oxford, and I hope to start tutoring undergraduates soon.

I have expertise in teaching history in the IB, Pre-U and international A level boards. My areas of expertise within history are British, global and imperial, Indian, Middle Eastern, Cold War, and the wider history of the twentieth century, but I am delighted to read up and teach any topic, from art history to America to the Chinese revolution!
Really helpful and insightful, thank you. Lots to go on ready for next time!
Useful feedback and comments given in a short space of time. very efficient clear and helpful
Extremely helpful! Thanks so much!
I am very grateful for this lesson! Abhimanyu is a very passionate teacher who provided me with many useful tips regarding essay writing which I will try to use in my future works. His feedback is very extensive and well thought through – it is much more extensive than the feedback I usually receive at school. Abhimanyu dissected my whole essay, from the beginning to the conclusion, and provided me with many excellent suggestions as to what I could have mentioned more or how I could have rephrased some of the sentences in order to improve the clarity of my argument. I know that organisation of ideas is one of my weakest points, not only in history, and I hope that with Abhimanyu's help I will be able to improve! Thank you very, very much for this lesson.
The class was brilliant. Abhumanyu thoroughly dissected my essay, helping me to improve my structure and analysis. This was certainly the most useful and engaging class that I have received on Spires.
very kind. I never met this best tutor in my life. I recommended him as a tutor
He is so kind tutor and I really recommend him as a tutor. I never met this kind of tutor before and I am so happy to meet Abhi.
Great, very impressed with the way in which the questions were interrogated!
Very kind and helpful :)
Abhimanyu was really helpful with essay writing skills and has great knowledge on the content that he teaches. He helped break down my work into very manageable pieces which meant I was able to approach it with ease. He was interested and very keen to help. Thank you!!
