I am a writer and an actor, and have done work as a role player for corporate companies and medical students (playing simulated patients, pretending to have all sorts of conditions, which is generally quite amusing). I am out-going, love to go to the theatre (I write reviews for different publications regularly), and I am an avid reader. I also love listening to audiobook and podcasts on the go. I love baking as well, and trying new recipes, and although I live in London now, I originally hail from Yorkshire, so obviously get out in the Moors walking around like a character out of a Brontë novel whenever I can. I also don't take life too seriously and enjoy a good laugh (because otherwise what's the point?).
I have tutored GCSE, A-level, Degree and Doctorate-level students on a range of subjects, although my main focus has been Psychology, Sociology, Education, academic writing skills and Qualitative Research Methods. I have written model essays for exam boards, proofread and edited work to be published, and worked on many dissertations and PhDs with university students.
For essays and dissertation proposals, I can help plan and discuss ideas with a student through an online session, to help generate a critical and compelling argument and rationale. Thereafter, unless a student feels they would benefit specifically from an online session, we tend to work offline together, with me acting as a supervisor to edit and guide their work from the planning stages and rough drafts, through to the finished piece. I track all my changes and provide specific, detailed comments throughout, to help improve what the student already has. I also teach critical evaluation skills, using various acronyms to structure paragraphs and give ideas about the best ways to critique both theory and research studies.
I have tutored for over 15 years on the following subjects, including essays, dissertations and theses:
Psychology (A-Level to Doctorate level, including Counselling Psychotherapy)
Sociology (A-Level to Doctorate level)
Education (Undergraduate - Doctorate level)
Film & Media (Undergraduate - Postgraduate level)
Marketing (Undergraduate - Postgraduate level)
Academic writing (proofreading, UCAS applications, CVs, and general English grammar, structure, and vocab skills)
I specialise in qualitative research methods, particularly thematic analysis, grounded theory, discourse analysis and IPA.
Insightful and helpful feedback that really helped to guide my essay
Amazing class!
Amy is an amazing teacher ! And she explains everything clearly and is willing to help !
Greeeaaaaaat! I learned a lot by working with Amy, I can see how much I am improving. she is talented and knowledgeable in her field.
Amy was so great, she answered all of my questions and was so easy to talk to.
Amy was phenomenal in providing an objective perspective of my work and supporting me to reformat things so they make more sense to new readers (a.k.a the person grading it!). Calm, friendly and very articulate, she helped me reword things for clarity and talking with her helped generate new ideas to cover. Thank you so much.
Brilliant class as always. Thank you
Excellent service and constructive feedback
Amy was and is outstanding. She went above and beyond to familiarise herself with my course content to be able to best assist me with my Essay. She also clearly cares about me and my wellbeing as well. Having had tutors from Primary School up to Degree Level Amy is up there with the very best I have ever had.
Feedback was very helpful for improving clarity and understanding of the research aims, questions, and methodology.
Bobby - Amy is a phenomenal tutor she has helped me so much during with my final year of University. I was really struggling with my dissertation and i can't explain how helpful it was to have Amy help guide me, give me advice and motivate me throughout the whole process. She's very intelligent, very skilled at tutoring and goes above and beyond to help her clients! I wish I had found her earlier so I could have used her guidance for other projects in my second year ahaha ;) Thanks again Amy wish you all the best Bobby
