I have successfully taught all subjects I am offering up to and including A Level. Experienced with AQA, OCR, Edexcel, and Eduqas. As a senior leader I have coached and mentored new and experienced teachers giving me a deep understanding of teaching methodologies. Skilled in differentiating learning, my student-centred approach ensures all students make progress. I am dedicated to developing the passion for lifelong learning in others.
I have a PhD in Engineering and a First Class MEng (Honours) in Ship Science from the University of Southampton. Since graduating I have gained over 5 years of experience in lecturing and tutoring engineering subjects, all of which required a strong background in maths and physics. I have always been keen to inspire students of all ages and abilities in STEM subjects and as such have a very varied tutoring background including undergraduate and postgraduate level at university, secondary school level during outreach workshops and lectures held both in schools and at university, and teaching industry professionals engineering at a university in Singapore.
I am experienced in teaching using a range of learning techniques including quizzes, demonstrations, example questions, and linking problems to real world situations, allowing me to tailor sessions to meet the requirements of the individual. If a student is struggling I am experienced in breaking down complex concepts into a number of simple steps in order to build the students knowledge and help them to progress. Above all I aim to make the subjects interesting and enjoyable to the students.
Over the past 15 years, I have been helping students with their studies in Economics, Finance, Statistics, and other Business-related subjects, primarily at the university level. Moreover, I have had extensive experience in thesis writing and assignment supervision, research guidance as well as academic writing. During this time, my zeal, in-depth knowledge and overall tutoring skills have enabled me to develop a good reputation, thus having a consistent and loyal base of students on a weekly basis.
I have worked as a professional tutor and educational consultant for six years. I have taught dozens of students for thousands of hours in total. I have also worked as a teacher in an independent school in North London.
I have had many successful students; a few examples include:
>Two admitted to study HSPS at Cambridge.
>One admitted to all three of Westminster, Winchester, and St.Paul's for 13+.
>One who gained 84/84 marks in his A-Level Politics Paper 2, which is now being used as an exemplar.
>One who gained an A in A-Level History after being predicted a C.
I believe that the most important virtue in a tutor is the ability to empathise with a student's cognitive position. When teaching I aim to guide a student through the mental steps needed to accomplish the goal of the lesson.
I typically spend much of a lesson in dialogue with the student. I break this up with exercises to embed and reinforce key points, but I always end the lesson with a call to reflection on what the student has learned. I emphasise that knowledge is open-ended and interconnected.
"The learning exercises were always set around my interest areas, making tuition both fun and effective. Following my sessions with Andrew, I have developed a more concise way of communicating. My writing now has more flow, which helps me say what I need to say." - Neil , Newtownabbey
I'm passionate about nurturing the potential of each student with whom I have the privilege of working. With over 10 years' experience as a Learning Coach with countless individuals and groups, Diploma in Life Coaching as well as a successful university graduate (1st class hons in Philosophy) and additional Masters research degree in Developmental Psychology, I previously taught at Secondary school and most recently trained nursing professionals to pass their IELTS exams.
I am also a regular public speaker and workshop leader in the private health sector, delivering courses in areas from stress-management and communication skills, to self-care and personal development.
I have over eight years experience tutoring for the 7+, 8+, 9+, 10+, 11+ and Common Entrance exams in Maths, English, Verbal and Non-Verbal Reasoning.
All my students have gained places at top London schools such as:
St Paul’s (boys and girls)
Godolphin and Latymer
City of London (boys and girls)
And many more.
I have an extensive knowledge of London schools, both private and grammar, and can offer help and guidance throughout the application process.
I also tutor French up to University level, as well as English and History up to A-level.
Finally, I also help with Oxbridge and UCAS applications, for students wanting to study English and History. All of my students (11 in total) received places at their colleges of choice.
I have been teaching for over 17 years and tutoring for 6 years.

I am an experienced educator, having taught in schools and privately for a number of years. I am equipped to teach History and Politics to a high standard, as well as English and Maths to younger or EAL students.
I have a wide range of tutoring experience, including:
History: Historiography, source analysis, essay writing, exam technique, British political history, history of medicine, WWI and WWII, the cold war, early modern English cultural history, industrial history, colonial history, and many more.
Politics: Political theory, government, UK politics, US politics, political ideas,
English: EAL, Key Stage 2 and 3
I have been a private tutor over the last five years or so, teaching biology, chemistry, physics, mathematics and French at a range of levels from secondary up to A level standard. I have also taught the clarinet.
Some of my pupils in the past have been struggling or unmotivated and subsequently performed very well in their exams. One example was a girl who had failed her GCSE Mathematics (Lower Tier) and came to me to prepare for her retake. I gave her the confidence she needed and she passed with a 5, the highest possible score at Lower Tier.
I try to bring together different fields of study in my lessons and explain how they relate to one another. As a Natural Sciences graduate I can draw from my interdisciplinary knowledge of various biological, chemical, geological, environmental and mathematical topics. Thanks to a six-week-long exchange to a school near Paris, I am also reasonably fluent in French with a strong understanding of grammar and an appreciation of the French culture and colloquialism, while my interest in languages in general (I can also speak German and some Italian) allows me to understand the evolution and interconnections of language, and consequently to enrich my tutoring material. I will try to find ways not only to elucidate any problems students have, but hopefully to also allow them to appreciate the underlying meaning or beauty of these subjects.
