I promote the use of philosophical thinking tools, argument deconstruction and identifying rhetorical 'tricks'. I find asking students to use story pitching approaches, such as loglines, and writing/pitching their ideal abstracts for essays help sharpen their focus on what is essential to their dissertations. I design programmes of study that emphasise the application of critical thinking and a growth mind-set (Dweck, 2006;2012). I promote self-regulated learning in my teaching (see Zimmerman & Schunk, 2007), which incorporates online/blended learning methods.

I guest lecture at UCL IOE on doctoral research in education and pastoral care, and I tutor doctoral students.
