I studied Music at the University of Cambridge from 2017-2020, with a particular focus on historical musicology. I am especially interested in the relationship between religion and music in Europe during the sixteenth century. My final dissertation examined and compared princely patronage of secular women musicians and nun-musicians in sixteenth-century Ferrara. Although my degree area was very specific, I really love learning and am interested in a wide range of subjects, such as science and history. I love being a tutor because it is so varied, and I am able to teach and discuss so many different subjects!
I am principally a flautist, although I was also a choral scholar in the Charter Choir of Homerton College, Cambridge, during my time at university. I have played the flute and piccolo in many notable orchestras, including the National Youth Wind Orchestra of Great Britain, Cambridge University Orchestra, and King's College Music Society. In my free time, I enjoy sewing clothes and hiking.
I am a professional tutor and academic mentor with two years' experience as a secondary Music teacher at a prestigious school. I have also worked in primary education, and with one of the UK's largest maths and English tuition companies. I primarily teach Music from primary to undergraduate level, and I have tutored children aged 3-16 in maths, English, phonics, biology, chemistry, and combined science. I run an 11+ preparation course for a national tuition company, which prepares students for every aspect of the 11+, including verbal and non-verbal reasoning. I have seen excellent academic progress and increased confidence in my regular students.
My approach to tutoring is tailored to each individual student based on their level of learning, goals, and individual learning style. I love getting to know my students and discovering what works best for them. Students preparing for exams, such as 11+ admissions and GCSEs, might expect sessions to be based on a framework of 'explanation, scaffolded practice, exam-style questions'. Working closely with the relevant exam board specification, we cover any key definitions/equations/techniques for the topic before moving onto supported and individual practice. I encourage a constant dialogue throughout the sessions, so that I can check my students' understanding. I teach my students to tackle unfamiliar questions with a highly logical approach, using their existing knowledge and problem-solving skills.
Students who aren't preparing for exams might expect more flexibility in the content of the sessions. For example, personal statement consultations cover a wide range of content relevant to the individual. As a Cambridge graduate, I am well-equipped to advise Oxbridge applicants on personal statements, samples of work, and interview technique.

It was a really helpful session and I learned a lot, thank you!
My son has come away very happy and pleased, will definitely be booking more sessions for my other children too.
Thank you my daughter understood the topic.
Amelia helped my daughter with her A Level chorale music examination revision. Amelia's lessons were to a very high standard and gave my daughter the subject knowledge and techniques needed to sit her exams with confidence. I would highly recommend Amelia.
Amelia is awesome at what she does! My daughter passed her Music Aptitude test, scoring 56 out of 60, thanks to Amelia! I reached out to Amelia to prepare my daughter for her 11 plus music aptitude test. She came very prepared in the session including understanding the style of questions and exercises. Not only that, she gave at least half an hour extra in that session to help my daughter understand the concepts and techniques to be able to give her test. She gave amazing tips to my daughter to identify pitch, texture, melody and rhythm. Thanks again!
Amelia is a great music teacher! She is very clear with her explanations, very knowledgeable and friendly. She is very helpful, both during the class and also with her support out of class. She has provided my daughter with a lot of carefully chosen and targeted additional material to support her study. As a result, my daughter’s understanding of music theory and analysis has really improved greatly during the course of her lessons. And she has always left the lessons with a smile on her face.
"I received tutoring from Amelia for my Music GCSE. She was an inspirational teacher who made lesson fun and engaging. Amelia was incredibly well prepared for my lessons and gave very help feedback every lesson. Throughout year 10 and into year 11 I was working at a 5/6 but with Amelia’s help I managed to get an 8 in my GCSE. She was brilliant and I would definitely recommend her."
