I am an experienced tutor and fully qualified science teacher, having taught at secondary schools in Nottingham. I have been a classroom teacher for 4 years and I have been tutoring during weekends for over three years (plus intermittent experience before this point). At the moment, I am still working in schools but as an NTP Tutor. This is a National Tutoring Programme funded by the government to try to address learning loss during the COVID-19 pandemic.
I am also focused on delivering private online and in-person tuition.
I have over 6 years of experience in teaching Biology, Chemistry and Physics to GCSE level and A level Biology. I am also confident in mathematics, with experience of teaching this to GCSE level in a motivating and practical way. I am familiar with the following exam boards: Edexcel, AQA, OCR and Pearson. I have taught students from the ages of 7 up to 18.
My tutoring sessions are tailored specifically to the needs of each pupil in order to ensure that they make progress and achieve their academic results. My approach to teaching is to help students answer questions themselves, by giving suggestions, instead of telling them the answer. I use humour, imagination and innovation in the learning environment in order to keep lessons engaging and effective. I have an excellent track record of success and the ability to build a good rapport with students. Students often comment on how much they enjoy their tuition with me.
Importantly, I want my students to develop confidence in answering and asking questions. I design my sessions to work on areas of the curriculum that students are less secure in and opportunities to practice exam techniques. I know the common misconceptions that students usually have and I provide them with a set of tools and strategies to help them decode the questions and answer them correctly.
In our sessions, we can work on any areas that you want to work on. This could involve help on a particular homework; going over a topic that you haven’t fully understood at school or very often a focus on examination techniques by looking at past questions. I will assess your strengths and areas for improvement regularly and give you feedback on what steps we need to work on.
