Creative Writing job with Amelia:
Over 2 hrs/week - Hi,
I am currently writing a story for my creative writing class and it is based on theories of laughter. The theory I'm focusing on is superiority theory, which in a nutshell is when we make a joke out of other's suffering and find it amusing. My aim is to begin the story in this way, but let the ending subvert it the reader expectations.
The story I want to write is based on an urban legend, where villagers have inscribed on their doors 'Nale Ba' (come tomorrow) to ward off an evil witch who wants to kill men. The main outline is that there is a mysogynistic character called Derry, who sees women as sexual objects, not human beings. He gets a kick out of treating them badly. In the end, he invites one of the women he likes home, where during sex he finds out she is actually the witch. Her revenge is that she that she lets him live, but her vagina essentially swallows his penis, emasculating him for life.
I would like help in making my story line stronger, so strenthening the plot line itself, then just writing it up. The limit is 2000 words so its a very short story!
Hope someone can help me out as deadline is very soon!
STELLA's last review in Creative Writing from Amelia: brainstorming Fantastic! Really helped me with understanding a difficult concept and did it with such ease! Great tutor.
I have been a professional tutor since 2006.
Across all of the different subjects I teach, I always notice the same thing: the main difficulty that learners encounter is getting overwhelmed by what they're trying to learn. It could be that there seems to be simply too much material to cover; it could be that the concepts seem too difficult; it could be that the whole thing causes anxiety for some completely different reason which is apparently unrelated to the 'academic' side of things.
I help remove anxiety, regardless of what form it might take, in whatever way seems like it will help each individual most. Before long, it becomes possible to see the task in hand with different eyes – indeed, more importantly, at this point most of my students come to see their own abilities entirely differently. They may have come to me with a fixed idea of what they are 'bad' at, but I help them to realise that they have skills they hardly suspected.

I have tutored GCSE, A-level, Degree and Doctorate-level students on a range of subjects, although my main focus has been Psychology, Sociology, academic writing skills, Business Studies and Research Methods. I have written model essays for exam boards, proofread and edited work to be published, and worked on many dissertations and PhDs with university students.
For Psychology and Sociology, I adopt a systematic approach, and generally like to go over the material thoroughly, testing the student throughout, and spend time on previous exam papers and questions, planning essay answers, discussing how theories relate to real-life situations etc. I sometimes mind-map various themes and ideas with the student, and think outside the box as it were, to make sure that the ideas stem from the student's own work and thinking - so that they can remember it more fully and develop it in future (often students have more knowledge, ideas and insight than they realise, it just needs coaxing out of them!). I often tutor on coursework as well as examination preparation.

Occasional - I would like to have some help with proofreading and general feedback with my creative writing. I most likely would not like to do any online lessons. Instead, I would like to simply send my work and receive written feedback.
My creative writing will take the form of poetry and short stories.
I am looking forward to any responses. Thank you :-)

I like to make learning a language an enjoyable experience, whether that be French or English. I have been teaching languages and music for the last 9 years to people of all ages and levels, in countries including; Wales, London, Italy, France, Belgium, Morocco and Costa Rica. I believe it should be fun, fulfilling and mainly conversational, alongside the study of grammar, writing and reading. I have the ability to adjust my teaching method in order to suit the learner, as I believe everybody comes at languages from a different angle; some from an aural perspective and others from a more grammatical understanding. It is important for me to understand the learners' approach so I can help them fully immerse in the subject. I believe that languages are a vital skill in this global world today and would love to help you improve and work towards fluency in either French or English. I am happy to teach the basics as-well as the following examinations; IBDP, GCSE, A-level and University Degrees in both languages.
Music tutoring; I tutor Music GCSE and A.S/A-Level, piano grades 1-7, voice (jazz/pop), composition and music theory levels 1-8.
I believe ultimately the study of music should be fun and fulfilling and that the fundamental basics of music (e.g. scales/understanding of harmony & theory/listening skills/analytical skills) are required in order to progress with excellence. Musical examinations are not essential in order to be a great musician, but they do help one improve technique, precision and theory. GCSE and A-level music may well be necessary in order to study music at university level, particularly at music conservatoires. I consider music to be mainly about training the ear and playing with meaning and expression.
