I have tutored GCSE, A-level, Degree and Doctorate-level students on a range of subjects, although my main focus has been Psychology, Sociology, academic writing skills, Business Studies and Research Methods. I have written model essays for exam boards, proofread and edited work to be published, and worked on many dissertations and PhDs with university students.
For Psychology and Sociology, I adopt a systematic approach, and generally like to go over the material thoroughly, testing the student throughout, and spend time on previous exam papers and questions, planning essay answers, discussing how theories relate to real-life situations etc. I sometimes mind-map various themes and ideas with the student, and think outside the box as it were, to make sure that the ideas stem from the student's own work and thinking - so that they can remember it more fully and develop it in future (often students have more knowledge, ideas and insight than they realise, it just needs coaxing out of them!). I often tutor on coursework as well as examination preparation.

I have experience working with students of a range of ages and abilities, helping they to prepare for GCSE and A Level in English Language and Literature. I also have experience tutoring for Oxbridge admissions for English, including assisting with personal statements, ELAT and interview practice. I am flexible with my time, hard-working, used to balancing a range of work-loads, and committed to delivering a high quality tutoring service to all students, adapting to suit each individual's needs.
I am focused and driven; I tutored for Kaplan Test Prep for 20-years serving 10,000 students. My students dominate exams; I am very excited for them and for the opportunities that lay ahead of them!!
I have been tutoring for over 20 years and was Head of Department and teacher of English in a leading online school for ten years. I have taught all aspects of English Language and Literature from providing assistance at undergraduate level, through A Levels and GCSEs, down to KS1. What I love about tutoring one-to-one is the building up of a personal relationship with a student and seeing them gain confidence and develop. Every student is different and learns in a different way, and I have a firm belief that, given the right teacher, everyone can do really well in English. I have also taught History to GCSE and KS3 and run Drama groups, and have participated in additional tutoring for LAMDA.
I have 2 TEFL certificates and have tutored for IELTS/TOEFL/C2 as well as having taught practical conversational English to mixed age/ability groups.
I am a highly qualified and experienced tutor of English and the Humanities with a PhD in English Literature and Creative Writing from the University of Manchester.
I have experience tutoring all humanities and social science subjects to a high standard up to degree level. I have a lot of experience preparing students for exams and an exemplary record in improving their grades and confidence quickly. This year on average my GCSE students improved by more than 2 grades.
Many of my students are being home educated, or need some extra support aside from exams, and I specialise in being a flexible tutor, who can teach a variety of subjects in engaging ways. I have designed curriculum for home educated students and figured out ways to incorporate education into games, projects and experiments. I love working with parents and children to find what they need from education.
I also particularly focus on special needs tutoring, including home-schooled students, and those with a variety of additional needs. I have many students with dyslexia and other specific learning difficulties. Additionally, I have a lot of academic experience in Disability Studies. I have a Dyslexia Training Certificate, a Certificate in Specific Learning Difficulties and have passed the core modules from The National Autistic Society.
I have been tutoring for the past two years, both in person and online, teaching primarily English Language and English Literature to a range of students. I have students at the age of 4 and 5 who I am teaching to read and write before they begin school, students who are at Key stage 1 and 2 level, to whom I offer assistance on improving and developing their skills in reading and comprehension as well as writing and sentence development. I also teach 11+ English and 13+ English as well as GCSE. At GCSE level I have worked with students on their coursework, both creative writing and essay writing. I have also worked with students on their text analysis and composition skills, assisting them with writing techniques and exam practice. At A Level, I work with students studying English Literature, and Drama and Theatre Studies. At this stage, I have noticed that often students require assistance with learning to structure their arguments and also with revision skills as well as a focus on the subjects and information they are working with. When working with students at University Level, I have mostly taken sessions online, offering support with critical thinking and developing an argument in essay writing. I am always concerned with engaging with my students properly; really listening to them and then finding a method of tutoring which will be most useful to them. I believe that no student is the same, and therefore all students require specific tuition which is designed around their needs.
I'm a recent History & Spanish graduate from UCL, with over 1500+ hours worth of experience of dedicated one-to-one tuition across multiple subjects and over 60 students. 80% of my students have achieved their first choice school and 90% have reached or achieved beyond their target grades, with the majority achieving As/A*s or 8/9s at GCSE.
If you're a prospective History student, I have expertise in all the main exam boards (AQA, OCR, EDEXCEL, Cambridge iGCSE) and further specialize in coursework assistance. All of my previous students have achieved their target grade or higher, with many achieving 9s and As and A*s at A-Level. I also offer tuition for undergraduate level, particularly for dissertation/coursework assistance, planning and writing.
For Spanish students, I like to take an adaptive approach to tutoring and go at the student's pace. I try to place a lot of emphasis on getting you to practice as much as possible, especially with the speaking and writing components. I know the AQA and Edexcel exam boards inside out and often conduct the official oral exam with my students.
Furthermore, I tutor English all the way up from 7+ to A-Level, but mainly focus on GCSE English Language and Literature and particularly specialize in writing and analysis skills. Have covered majority of the set texts but please specify which texts you're doing if you're looking for help with the Literature exam or coursework.
My experiences of tutoring in a school as well as teaching drama have taught me that people learn in different ways, and that it's important to be able to adopt a style of tutoring that works for your student. Not everyone gets everything the first time around (least of all me), but at the same time you don't want to spend ages on something you know you understand. As a tutor I am both patient and challenging, whichever is appropriate to the student and their circumstances.
