Amy $60-70/hr

BA/MA English, Drama and Education - University of Cambridge

I have tutored GCSE, A-level, Degree and Doctorate-level students on a range of subjects, although my main focus has been Psychology, Sociology, academic writing skills, Business Studies and Research Methods. I have written model essays for exam boards, proofread and edited work to be published, and worked on many dissertations and PhDs with university students.

For Psychology and Sociology, I adopt a systematic approach, and generally like to go over the material thoroughly, testing the student throughout, and spend time on previous exam papers and questions, planning essay answers, discussing how theories relate to real-life situations etc. I sometimes mind-map various themes and ideas with the student, and think outside the box as it were, to make sure that the ideas stem from the student's own work and thinking - so that they can remember it more fully and develop it in future (often students have more knowledge, ideas and insight than they realise, it just needs coaxing out of them!). I often tutor on coursework as well as examination preparation.

Amy's last completed Sociology job with Amal: Occasional - I am beginning my journey on master degree in Sociology and Social Research, and I need tutoring throughout and on specific assignments. My first assignment is to write about research proposals as being a process. Please make an offer if you think you can provide help. You should return edited assignments on agreed deadlines. Please note that my first language is not English but I should be able to communicate my ideas well in meetings and on paper. We can replace the first free introductory meeting with a draft of my assignment.

Hannah $40-50/hr

Human, Social, and Political Sciences - University of Cambridge

I graduated from Cambridge last year, and wrote more than 50 essays over my time, and read even more books! I have learnt the hard way how to write a good essay, and how to read efficiently.
I miss studying and learning new things, but tutoring helps me to keep this up!
Because I have graduated I have more time for you!
I have taught a variety of adults and children from a wide range of backgrounds. I am currently running creative writing workshops for homeless, migrant, and LGBT+ groups in Cambridge, which has given me a huge variety of communication skills, with people both older and younger than myself. After teaching English in South Korea for a month last summer, there is no teaching challenge too big. I have learnt how to be clear and precise from working with people with English as a second language. I have taught sailing for 10 years at my sailing club. This requires teaching young people and adults complex pieces of theory, and most importantly, making these interesting to learn.

Hannah's last completed Sociology job with Cameron: Occasional - I attend LSE and have a sociology module exam on the 14th of may, the exam is seen so I hate already written out my answers but I am currently comfortably getting a 2:1(65) and I want to get it up to a 1st, I would like to send you my answers and you help me rework them to get them better so I can learn them and repeat them in the exam.
Any price is acceptable and the more qualified you are the better.

Toby $50-60/hr

History of Technology - University of Oxford

I've worked successfully as a tutor for GCSE and A-Level students for a number of years now, helping them drastically improve their grades. I've also done considerable work as a university supervisor and mentor for undergraduate, master's, and first-year doctoral students at the University of Oxford, University of Cambridge, and other institutions. My approach is mainly trust based, my students are often amazed by just how much they can do for themselves if they're in a learning environment that isn't adversarial, oppressive, or plain dull. Beyond A-Level, I also have teaching experience at the University of Oxford as a tutor and seminar leader for undergraduate history and sociology students, and I have degrees in both Archaeology and History. My background of experience is technological, and I work as a civilian consultant to the NASA Ames Human Factors laboratory in that capacity. Central to my approach is an understanding that my students are people, with their own unique strengths, weaknesses, and abilities, which need to be nurtured and supported in order to get the best possible results.

In this way, learning can, and should be of a reciprocal exchange of ideas, and by embracing this in a more relaxed and curiosity-driven approach, it becomes far easier for many to explore, absorb, and abstract their understanding of both the surface learning of school qualifications, and the deep learning of the concepts behind them crucial to getting the very highest grades.

Toby's last completed Sociology job with Rajni: Intensive - Sociology of Education degree. 3rd year at Cambridge.
Require a tutor to read/ suggest and offer advice on a draft dissertation.

Paula $40-50/hr

Doctor of Philosophy - Oxford University

Hello! I have over seven years experience working with students at all levels of learning. My goal with tuition is to understand where a student is struggling - whether it is essay structure, exam anxiety, focusing in class, note-taking skills, or effective reading - and create strategies to work with each student that will target their unique problem. I am especially good at working with students who have learning disabilities or who find the traditional classroom setting to be an ineffective environment. I work with tutees to build strong and effective skills for good grade achievement, especially in essay-writing.

I am a patient and friendly person, and structure tuition sessions to keep my students engaged and interested in their subject. I look forward to the opportunity to work with you!
