I have been tutoring for over 3 years now and mentoring for over 4 years.
My experience is tutoring A level Psychology and Sociology and I know the AQA Syllabus really well. This means I can provide you with expert knowledge and help.
Through my experience I know that for Psychology areas a lot of students struggle with is the 16 mark questions and research methods. Similarly for Sociology the bigger essay style questions are also a top area of concern. I ensure that all my students are confident with these areas to help them improve their grades and feel at ease when doing exams.
I also know the importance of revision skills and techniques which I help students develop. I use a variety of collaborative methods to help students learn and be motivated to enjoy the subject and our lessons.
When students are working with me they say how clear they feel after a lesson, how confident they feel going into exams and how much they find writing 16 mark essays now enjoyable.
Having tutored face to face I am confident using online technology which makes the student feel comfortable and at ease. I use a mix of powerpoints, quizzes, questions and answers, flashcards, ted talks, podcasts, youtube videos to help my students learn. I also fundamentally believe that no one student learns the same. So I always ensure to set specific goals for each individual and adapt my lesson to suit them and their learning style.
I have 8 years teaching experience in various settings. I have also conducted private tutoring within this time.
Those who have witnessed my teaching have always been praiseworthy towards my dynamic teaching style as well as the passion that is evident whilst teaching. The progression of students is very important to me and I guarantee to do my utmost to enable students to excel within their examinations.
I have extensive tutoring experience, combining my love for the humanities and social sciences with my passion to help other students succeed. My lessons are engaging and interactive, whilst highly tailored to the student's direct needs. Online tutoring provides a dynamic platform that enables me to develop a unique and productive relationship with my students, helping them to achieve their potential.
Hello! I have over seven years experience working with students at all levels of learning. My goal with tuition is to understand where a student is struggling - whether it is essay structure, exam anxiety, focusing in class, note-taking skills, or effective reading - and create strategies to work with each student that will target their unique problem. I am especially good at working with students who have learning disabilities or who find the traditional classroom setting to be an ineffective environment. I work with tutees to build strong and effective skills for good grade achievement, especially in essay-writing.
I am a patient and friendly person, and structure tuition sessions to keep my students engaged and interested in their subject. I look forward to the opportunity to work with you!
I am a dedicated and committed teacher of history with 10 years of experience. I completed a PGCE in History at the University of Cumbria in 2009, and spent four years working as an A Level History and Government & Politics teacher at Hartlepool Sixth Form College. I then spent four years at Braeburn International School Arusha as Head of Humanities before becoming Vice Principal. I moved on to spend a year at the British International School Moscow teaching IGCSE and IB History as well as IGCSE Sociology. I also have experience tutoring students for the ACT/SAT as well as IELTS. My students in the past have went on to universities such as Durham, Warwick, Edinburgh as well as Oxbridge. I am now pursuing an MA in History and working part-time in a secondary school in the North East of England.
My lessons are tailor-made personally for you and my average IGCSE and A Level score over the last 10 years has been 80+ A*-C. Every one of my IB History students achieved a Level 6 or above this year. I have a proven track record of excellence and I feel you will find in me the tutor who can make you excel.
I have worked as a professional tutor and educational consultant for six years. I have taught dozens of students for thousands of hours in total. I have also worked as a teacher in an independent school in North London.
I have had many successful students; a few examples include:
>Three admitted to study HSPS at Cambridge.
>One admitted to all three of Westminster, Winchester, and St.Paul's for 13+.
>One who gained 84/84 marks in his A-Level Politics Paper 2, which is now being used as an exemplar.
>One who gained an A in A-Level History after being predicted a C.
I believe that the most important virtue in a tutor is the ability to empathise with a student's cognitive position. When teaching I aim to guide a student through the mental steps needed to accomplish the goal of the lesson.
I typically spend much of a lesson in dialogue with the student. I break this up with exercises to embed and reinforce key points, but I always end the lesson with a call to reflection on what the student has learned. I emphasise that knowledge is open-ended and interconnected.
I have studied in a boarding school, unisex and co-educational setting, and have adapted to different teaching systems in different countries, including Australia, Hong Kong and England. It has allowed me to recognise the importance of valuing cultural diversity and individuality. I am fluent in English, Chinese and Cantonese and have worked with students from the pre-nursery to university level, as well as individuals with learning difficulties and special needs. I have had the honour to teach different curriculums including A-Level, AP, IB, GCSE/IGCSE and the HKDSE. I have also been a classroom teacher, a tutor as well as an online tutor. I believe these experiences have allowed me to develop my skills to fit the needs of the students as well as learner profiles. I also have extensive knowledge of AQA, OCR and EDEXCEL syllabuses in Psychology. I taught IB Psychology exclusively at the international school in Hong Kong. I have worked in local and international settings, secondary and post-compulsory education, as well as tutorial institutions. Being able to work with such a diverse, range of students in different settings has allowed me to build my teaching abilities and adapt to different settings, adjust expectations and be flexible. I currently teach at a further education institution delivering Psychology, sociology and criminology. Teaching is not only based on academic results but on skills for life, and how to function positively in society.
In order for effective communication, it is crucial for me to tailor the delivery of my information, to ensure the recipient fully understands the content, and in a classroom setting it would be essential for me to deliver my lessons in a language and tone that students would understand.
I've worked in higher education for a quarter of a century, with about a decade of that being at Cambridge, and most recently, at Brunel. I've taught in the UK, US and Mongolia, so have experience with a wide range of students. Within this context, I've taught academic writing, and I've helped dozens of students, both undergraduate and post-graduate, design, research, and write dissertations and other substantial pieces of research. As someone who has lectured at the University level, I've not only helped numerous students but I've also graded an even greater number of dissertations.
What this means is that not only can I help you with the writing, dissertations, coursework, I can help you understand why markers and instructors look for certain things. In other words, I can help you understand what we as graders want to see and why. And, as importantly, what we don't want to see and why. This makes for a much stronger dissertation, as you can use you own style and abilities to address what markers will feel are key issues, even if they aren't always spelled out.
I specialise in three key areas; the tutoring of primary school students, offering help with SATs, homework and entrance exams. Secondly, the tutoring of undergraduates studying education and psychology. Finally, English Literature tutoring across the board; from primary through to degree level.
As an education graduate, I am a keen learner and continue to develop my studies in many areas. I am now beginning a masters programme here at Cambridge. I have younger siblings in various stages of their education, with two younger sisters in primary school and one younger brother currently studying for his A Levels, so I know just how stressful and important this time can be.
I can also offer interview prep for Cambridge applicants, as well as support in completing applications.
