Gareth $50-60/hr

Anatomical Sciences - Leeds University

I have been tutoring and teaching for over 14 years, and over half of that has been spent in the position of Head of Science or assistant principal. I believe that I am easy to be around and students feel comfortable when working with me and are confident that they can ask any question, no matter how silly they may perceive it to be. I always try to think of relevant and engaging ways to tackle a topic to enable all abilities to understand.
Having left teaching in September 2018 to spend more time with my baby daughter, I've set up my own business that designs lesson resources for other teachers. This not only means that I have access to hundreds of resources that I share during lessons to back up the learning but also means that I'm aware of the intricacies and key details of all of the specifications, including the International ones

Gareth's last completed Secondary Science job with Claire: Occasional - Hello. My 12 year old son, Oscar, who is in year 7 (first of secondary) is struggling with his science 'home schooling'! It is not our best subject either! He could do with each lesson that his teacher sets to be chatted through with him so that he understands things better. They get sent the pages of an exercise book and are meant to read through and answer questions but it's difficult without an explanation. One hour a week would be fine and a Friday morning at 10am would be perfect! Thank you.

Gareth's last review in Secondary Science from Alex: TBD Great, as always.

Alex $40-50/hr

Materials - University of Oxford

During my undergraduate degree, I tutored students in lower years and ran a series of departmental seminars to encourage learning "beyond the textbook." I think it's important to help students make links not just between the subjects they study, but to real-world applications - a component sometimes missing in the high-pressure, rapid-paced school environment. Most crucially, I remember how stressful preparation for GCSEs and A-levels can be- and the tips and tricks students can employ to not only do well in the exam, but to really understand the material.

I am confident working with students of all abilities, particularly those who are motivated but lack confidence in their ability to tackle mathematics and the physical sciences. I am also interested in tutoring students who could benefit from a little extra support with their studies, as well as those who are seeking to be challenged beyond the school curriculum.
