I am a specialist Computer Science tutor/teacher with more than 20 years experience of private tutoring and teaching class based students. I hold a Degree and Masters Degree in Computer Science. I'm fully conversant with all exam board specifications including AQA, OCR, WJEC, EdExcel, IGCSE, Cambridge International, etc.
The subject I teach is my hobby. I have extensive experience of providing online tuition to students all around the UK, Europe and as far as Hong Kong.
Connecting and having a rapport with the student is key. I have two aims, one is to teach the topic within the specification. The other, more important, is to develop the student's confidence.
In addition, I am a full member of The Tutors Association. This is a professional body that ensures best practices and ethics by members.
Myles's last completed Secondary job with Mandy: Intensive -
Myles's last review in Secondary from Mandy: CS Myles explained everything in a way that in one hour, I have a better understanding of my Python project. Thank you.
I am a volunteer for a number of organisations which aim to help disadvantaged students reach university and have tutored a number of students to success in their exams so I have a lot of experience of working with young people and helping them to reach their potential. I am happy to help as a subject specific tutor for GCSE or A-Level, or help students through the sometimes daunting university application process and admissions tests.
About my tutorials:
Sessions are always student-led. I plan tutorials which reflect the student's level of understanding, giving access to notes, including suggested exam questions, which the student can add to during the tutorial, or use as a memory-aid following the tutorial.
I have received lots of positive feedback about this approach.
I can also help students through questions or tasks which they bring, and the best tutorials involve this collaborative input.
The pace of sessions is determined by the student, and I am happy to go through any topic with a number of different approaches until we find one which the student finds helpful.
Chloe's last completed Secondary job with Afsana: 1-2 hrs/week -
Chloe's last review in Secondary from Fiona: Just let me know at some point this week :) Technical issues, but a great class.
I am a 1st Class BSc Honours maths graduate and have been a private maths tutor for 3+ years now. I have helped many students understand topics they could not get to grips with. I specialise up to GCSE maths and have helped numerous students overcome questions they did not feel they could answer. I have also helped retake students pass their re-sits.
I break difficult maths topics down to the basics and build the students’ confidence up. I am very good at spotting gaps in students’ knowledge and target on their weaker areas. I have the new (9-1) resources for all topics in the Edexcel exam board but these can be applied to other boards if needed.
Wayne's last completed Secondary job with Siramory: 1-2 hrs/week -
Wayne's last review in Secondary from Frederique: Excellent
I have been tutoring and teaching for over 14 years, and over half of that has been spent in the position of Head of Science or assistant principal. I believe that I am easy to be around and students feel comfortable when working with me and are confident that they can ask any question, no matter how silly they may perceive it to be. I always try to think of relevant and engaging ways to tackle a topic to enable all abilities to understand.
Having left teaching in September 2018 to spend more time with my baby daughter, I've set up my own business that designs lesson resources for other teachers. This not only means that I have access to hundreds of resources that I share during lessons to back up the learning but also means that I'm aware of the intricacies and key details of all of the specifications, including the International ones
Gareth's last completed Secondary job with sarah: Occasional - I am looking to get an A* in my exam. In my recent mock, I got an A/B, and I need a bit of help sharpening things up. Ideally I would like someone who is teaching biology, or has recently taught it, who can really help with exam technique.
Gareth's last review in Secondary from sarah: TBD Gareth went through my topics at both an A level biology and chemistry standard and gave me very useful exams questions at the end.
I've worked successfully as a tutor for GCSE and A-Level students for a number of years now, helping them drastically improve their grades. I've also done considerable work as a university supervisor and mentor for undergraduate, master's, and first-year doctoral students at the University of Oxford, University of Cambridge, and other institutions. My approach is mainly trust based, my students are often amazed by just how much they can do for themselves if they're in a learning environment that isn't adversarial, oppressive, or plain dull. Beyond A-Level, I also have teaching experience at the University of Oxford as a tutor and seminar leader for undergraduate history and sociology students, and I have degrees in both Archaeology and History. My background of experience is technological, and I work as a civilian consultant to the NASA Ames Human Factors laboratory in that capacity. Central to my approach is an understanding that my students are people, with their own unique strengths, weaknesses, and abilities, which need to be nurtured and supported in order to get the best possible results.
In this way, learning can, and should be of a reciprocal exchange of ideas, and by embracing this in a more relaxed and curiosity-driven approach, it becomes far easier for many to explore, absorb, and abstract their understanding of both the surface learning of school qualifications, and the deep learning of the concepts behind them crucial to getting the very highest grades.
Tobias's last completed Secondary job with Marcos: Occasional - I am struggling with my personal statement and supplementary essays.
Since 2015, I have been tutoring both A-Level and (I)GCSE students across multiple boards of examination. I have helped many individuals achieve their academic goals, with students showing improvements by up to 3 symbols. I began this initiative after achieving my Cambridge International Examination (CIE) A-Levels in mathematics, chemistry and physics with an A and 2 A* grades respectively, averaging 90% overall. I aspire, through tutoring, to help all of my students find enjoyment and inspiration within the fields of science and mathematics.
Robin's last completed Secondary job with eyob: 1-2 hrs/week - Student is in year 8
The subjects that I primarily tutor are Physics, Mathematics and Chemistry. My 4 years of tutoring experience has found me tutoring students from year 8 to year 11 and providing valuable SAT preparation lessons.
I am fully aware of the GCSE/pre-GSCE subject matter and requirements. I have tutored numerous international students and their improvements stand testament to my ability to tutor various syllabuses. In addition, the 2 years of calculus, 2 years of chemistry and 1 year of physics that I completed at university, has adequately prepared me for all content appearing in different syllabuses.
Most of my client base is a result of referrals from other students, due to their improvements and belief within my tutoring capabilities. My tutoring ethos is built around a core of patience, passion and pride within my student's success. My experience has taught me valuable techniques for explaining difficult concepts in an easy to understand manner. I always recommend practicing the covered content after the lesson, and provide my own problems/questions if there aren't any available. I also provide lessons for overall test/exam preparation where I provide useful time saving tips among other things.

I've been teaching with Spires for over a year, and I've had several long- and short-term clients over this period. All my students have made highly encouraging progress and have given me very positive feedback.
Off Spires, I have a wide range of teaching experience, both paid and volunteering, in a variety of languages and to both adults and children. I am a CELTA-certified teacher of English to students of other languages, and have outstanding academic credentials (A* at A-level in English Literature and Distinction in both French and Italian in my Preliminary Examinations at Oxford).
I teach English, French and Italian literature and language, to both native English speakers and foreign learners. I encourage my students to be scrupulously accurate when it comes to the finer points of language and creative and imaginative when it comes to studying literature. I am happy to conduct lessons in English, French or Italian.
I have a detailed knowledge of the UCAS system, and of Oxford and Cambridge application procedures in particular. I'm happy to offer help with personal statements, interview practice and preparation for the MLAT or Cambridge MML admissions test and advice about written work to be submitted.
Jessica 's last completed Secondary job with David: 1-2 hrs/week - I have two daughters ages 12 and 13. For them, I am interested in learning French. They will generally be available weekday evenings though possibly some weekends and weekdays. They are currently learning French in school so are average speakers.
Jessica 's last review in Secondary from Andrei: very good lesson it helped me out a lot
I have been tutoring in French and German since I was in sixth form and spent six months in Vienna as a teaching assistant in 2014/15. I have taught a range of students between the ages of 11 and 18, both individually and in groups of up to 30. Therefore, I am well versed in planning and adapting lessons to focus on a student's strengths, weaknesses, requirements and interests.
Working as a translator in Paris has given me a breadth of French vocabulary that spans beyond the classroom and literature course. My students will thus get the chance to stand out from the crowd and impress with their diverse knowledge of colloquial and technical idiom.
Both of the languages I studied were learnt from scratch at secondary school, and the methods I devised and skills I trained throughout my schooling and time at Oxford are relevant and applicable to anyone wishing to improve their fluency and command of French and German. I am currently teaching myself Spanish, Danish and Swedish using the same techniques to build up my proficiency quickly as well as sustainably.
Daniel's last completed Secondary job with Louise : 1-2 hrs/week - Year 7 student.
I am a qualified maths teacher with over 20 years' experience. I really do enjoy tutoring because, working on a one-to-one basis, I see results and know from feedback that my input does make a difference. This gives me a great deal of job satisfaction!
Through this work I have amassed a large quantity of teaching resources which I am able to upload for lessons. I can talk to students at the appropriate level, adjusting things to help with understanding as and when necessary. I know too, that listening is an equally important skill as it facilitates getting to the nub of the problem and unpicking things or addressing any misconceptions.
I have a full DBS check for peace of mind and am conscientious and reliable; I am not in the habit of letting anyone down.
