Business Information Innovation - RMIT

My passion is to develop in students a commitment to their own life long learning and develop the associated skills to achieve their aspirations.

In tutoring, my goal is to support students to achieve to the best of their ability by helping them understand their role in learning, supporting them to develop the necessary subject specific skill competencies as well as content understanding.

Recent students have achieved over 80% in their university entrance exams with just a few sessions including some focus on exam preparation as well as content. Another student with a commitment to her own success achieved a 7 in IB Business Management with one on one teaching over only one year, where I coached her to develop and apply her learning to achieve her desired results. In 2020, through Spires I coached a student for a few months on her Business Management IA which facilitated her to reach a 7!

In the initial free meeting, I will help students to identify and plan their learning goals, then coach them to achieve those goals in future lessons. I also seek to engage with parents from the beginning to ensure students have as many levels of support for their learning as possible.

Performance management - Leeds university

I have worked in the commercial business world and gained experience before moving into my passion for teaching. I want to concentrate on turning students I Can't statements into I Can, I believe that everyone has the potential to achieve they just need the correct guidance and that all important Mindset. Each student is different and gains the knowledge and understanding in different ways, as a tutor it is my job to find that way and release that potential.

My approach to teaching is to find the right method for the student. I believe each student has their own style of learning and we need to harness that style in order to succeed. I discuss the needs of the student and then assess the ability through a test. From the results I create a individual learning plan, using this plan we work together to find the best learning style ( practical, theory based, written, spoken, mix of styles) to turn the student from a knowledge and understanding into a expert and evaluator. I aim to have my students having a positive growth mindset and leave saying I Can do that!

Nicola's last completed Secondary Study skills job with Patricia:

Over 2 hrs/week - We live in Scotland and are looking for online coaching. This lock down has negatively affected my daughter who has stopped doing her studies and is in low spirits about her future studies. She is now starting S6 and would be soon writing up her dissertation to apply for University. We will not know results of her latests exams until August 4th, but because only pre-lims are considered her qualifications may not be as high as she would have hoped if they had taken final exams. I am looking for an enthusiastic tutor that could help her develop skills to study independently and enjoy her subjects. She like English, models Studies and Art. Many thanks - Patricia

Archaeology - Durham University

I pride myself in the quality of working relationship quickly developed with students of all ages. Whether reaching for examination confidence, mastery of subject content or skills, or progress with emotional, behavioural or cognitive needs, all tutees should expect teaching that is entirely personalised and constantly adaptive to their evolving learning, including:

- guidance for pupils toward understanding and pride in all supported subject disciplines, while troubleshooting all associated challenges, from frustrations with phonics to maths anxiety, from the art of the essay to that of examination-timing and from Alternative Vote in politics to ‘alternative conceptualisations’ in chemistry;

- mentoring or life-skill teaching: identifying and fostering scholastic and general skills beyond those specific to particular academic subjects yet required for flourishing within educationally related outcomes generally;

- support for atypical educational needs. Teaching in this area is important to me, and I am currently extending my training with additional part-time postgraduate studies. Inwardly, special-needs are never what I see; what I see are special opportunities: exciting opportunities. My teaching teaches for exciting futures, not needful ones.

My aim is for each of my students to discover the tools, skills and conviction to achieve all the outcomes of their and of their parents’ hopes. I want my students to discover what they can do and to inspire themselves by what they find.

BMus Hons degree - Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance, London

I like to make learning a language an enjoyable experience, whether that be French or English. I have been teaching languages and music for the last 9 years to people of all ages and levels, in countries including; Wales, London, Italy, France, Belgium, Morocco and Costa Rica. I believe it should be fun, fulfilling and mainly conversational, alongside the study of grammar, writing and reading. I have the ability to adjust my teaching method in order to suit the learner, as I believe everybody comes at languages from a different angle; some from an aural perspective and others from a more grammatical understanding. It is important for me to understand the learners' approach so I can help them fully immerse in the subject. I believe that languages are a vital skill in this global world today and would love to help you improve and work towards fluency in either French or English. I am happy to teach the basics as-well as the following examinations; IBDP, GCSE, A-level and University Degrees in both languages.

Music tutoring; I tutor Music GCSE and A.S/A-Level, piano grades 1-7, voice (jazz/pop), composition and music theory levels 1-8.
I believe ultimately the study of music should be fun and fulfilling and that the fundamental basics of music (e.g. scales/understanding of harmony & theory/listening skills/analytical skills) are required in order to progress with excellence. Musical examinations are not essential in order to be a great musician, but they do help one improve technique, precision and theory. GCSE and A-level music may well be necessary in order to study music at university level, particularly at music conservatoires. I consider music to be mainly about training the ear and playing with meaning and expression.
