Who are the tutors?

Spires tutors are all current or graduates from top universities. All of our tutors undergo a rigorous interview process.

What subjects do you offer?

We offer over 300 subjects. From algebra to zoology, we have it all!

Free Meet & Greet

What is the free meet and greet?

We offer all our users free meet and greets with any tutor. This is a great chance to ask them anything and meet your prospective tutor.

Is it really free?

Yes, it is absolutely free! All you have to do is create an account to connect with tutors.


How do I book a lesson?

How do I review a tutor?

After your lesson, you will be asked to rate your tutor.

How do I join a lesson?

Please login to your account a few minutes before your lesson is due to begin. You will see a drop down banner inviting you to join the virtual classroom. Please click on the link and get ready for your class to begin. If you're joining an instant lesson, simply follow the link in the messenger.


What is the minimum lesson duration?

There is no minimum lesson length.

How much does a lesson cost?

It varies on what you are looking for. Tutors set their own prices. More information is available here

What is the 100% satisfaction guarantee?

If you're not 100% satisfied with your lesson, we'll give you another one for free.

How do I pay for a lesson?

Simply add your credit card details when prompted.


How do I verify my email address?

Please check the email address you used to sign up for your account. Please remember to also check your Junk folder if you can't find it in your inbox. Remember that you can easily resend the verification email by logging into your account and selecting the 'resend verification email' button.

How do I update my account information?

Please go to 'My Account' and select the 'edit' button next to the section which you would like to edit.

How do I reset my password?

Please follow the 'reset password' link at the bottom of the 'log in' popup.


What are the technical requirements to use the online classroom?

You will need a computer, webcam, microphone and a broadband connection.

The audio/video isn't working. What should I do?

Please check that you do not have Skype (or similar programs) open. Please also check that you have allowed the virtual classroom access to your microphone.

What is Spires?
How does it work?

As a tutor, students can view your profile, message you and send you lesson requests. Should you decide to accept the lesson, you will be directed to the virtual classroom at the arranged time to teach the lesson. Spires will handle the payment and ensure that you are paid the correct fee.

What are the requirements to become a tutor?

You can apply to become a tutor if you currently study or have graduated from university.

How do I apply to become a tutor?

Applying to become a tutor is quick and easy:
1. Sign up for an account
2. Select the subjects you can teach
3. Complete your profile
Start the application by clicking 'be a tutor' in the navbar above.

When will I find out if I've been approved as a tutor?

We are committed to providing the very best tutors and carefully consider each applicant. We will typically review an application and notify you of the outcome via email within 3 working days.

Which subjects can I tutor?

Please only select those subjects in the sign-up process which you feel you have mastered and are able to teach to a high level.

How much do I get paid?

Tutors set their own prices. Spires takes a commission that reduces with time.

When and how do I get paid?

We pay our tutors every Friday via PayPal. You can create a PayPal account by following this link.

What are the technical requirements?

You will need a computer, a webcam, a microphone and a broadband connection.

What is the time commitment?

There is no time commitment. You can teach as much or as little as you would like. We do however recommend that you reply to student lesson request as quickly as possible.
