About Me
My name is David. I teach Business studies, English and Drama. I have been a tutor to primary, secondary & sixth form students. I studied at the University of Essex graduating in 2012. I then completed my PGCE (teacher training) at University College London. I have a master’s in business management with a further post graduate certificate in acting, drama and communication. In addition to tutoring, I have been a GCSE and A level examiner and assessor. I have now clocked up thousands of hours experience teaching in schools, colleges and as an online private tutor and mentor. I have worked in industry as a retail manager and have helped my students with work experience placements. I have recently worked in community theatre and introduced students to acting on stage, where I organised a trip to Gibraltar, the students in attendance took part in stagecraft training. I have supported and prepared my students for their UCAS applications to study at university and advanced apprenticeships. I am very sporty and enjoy mountain biking, rugby, football and baseball. I have also completed The Duke of Edinburgh Award. I am passionate about meeting people from different countries and cultures and my knowledge has been broadened by my travels. I have a particular passion and interest in marketing and have worked with companies allowing learners to engage with these employers.
Tutor Experience
My teaching style is structured, thorough and interactive. I start every lesson with a five-minute recap of the key content of the previous session, checking how much the student remembers. I am passionate about project-based learning where I use a variety of approaches and strategies to support student learning. Business studies involves both theory and application. I ensure every student understands the theory and is then able to apply the theory to practice. Where appropriate I use technology to aid and enhance the learning experience. This includes quizzes, videos, and case studies. I regularly assess my students to check their understanding of concepts, models, and theories. My role is as much facilitator as teacher to model entrepreneurial behaviour in each of my students enabling them to develop the skills, knowledge, and behaviours to succeed in their studies. I am keen to develop my students emotional and cultural intelligences in addition to academic intelligence. I am very experienced teaching children with ADHD, autism, dyslexia, dyscalculia, processing issues, dyspraxia, and sensory processing difficulties. I will tailor a programme to suit an individual student's requirements and design visual timetables and implement sensory plans when required. I have experience in assessments, home-school advisory services and teaching and tutoring.
I teach on the following exam boards. AQA, BTEC, Cambridge, CCEA, CTEC, Edexcel, IB international baccalaureate, and OCR.
Qualified IELTS tutor and assessor.
I am also a GCSE and A'level examiner with AQA, Edexcel and OCR.

Since lesson one, my son's confidence in himself has noticeably increased. How David explains things, opens up poems in my son's mind.... and encourages him to write.
He brilliantly picks up on nuances and underlying fears, that are hard to pick up on, on a video call with understanding and astuteness and subtly addresses these indirectly and cleverly before he even begins the session opening up the space for confidence, learning and writing, all is kept relative to the teaching of the session- his approach is genius... and it's clear his abilities extend beyond English.
We can identify that his tutoring abilities extend beyond English and we are grateful for the gift it's offering our son.
He has re-established his sense of self-value and reunited with his passion for writing. He believes he can do this now and that's incredible - he just needs to keep writing and have the support of David leading up to his exams and we know he will benefit greatly in his exam and in himself.

David has been patient with him and the results, teacher feedback and improvements are visible. This was my son's favourite subject at one time and he is re-accessing this again. Thank you, David, for inspiring him.
Besides this - it is fair to say, that David is a par-excellent tutor and has a gift with school learners. My son is ASD with bright learning capability (writing the IGCSE English) and we have seen a positive turnaround in him that we can be proud of!
We have seen the improvement based on feedback starting to come in from his English teacher and we are confident that Leago has the support of David leading up to his exams. We feel hopeful and assured that he will now achieve his desired grade and hope to keep him writing until then.
