Hello, my name is Helen and I am a qualified teacher who has experience teaching in Secondary Schools in Bradford and London. I have 4 years experience as Head of Geography
I love travelling and learning new languages and try to get outdoors as much as possible. When I'm not teaching you will most likely find me up a mountain, searching for waterfalls or volcanoes. I also love art and painting and try to bring a visual approach into my teaching.
I have taught geography to 11-19 year olds since September 2017. I have experience teaching the AQA, Eduqas and Edexcel specifications at GCSE and A level.
I am dyslexic and therefore understand the need to be creative with learning strategies and how a teachers approach can make an impact. I use a lot of images and diagrams in my teaching and focus on using key vocabulary. I have a strong understanding of examination mark-schemes and will use model answers to help pupils understand what is expected of them.
A key focus in getting pupils to deconstruct exam questions so they can understand what is expected of them. My teaching experience means I know what common misconceptions are and I can therefore help students avoid making these.
I have taught both physical and human geography up to A level and have experience with the AQA, Eduqas and Edexcel exam boards. Having lived in France for 5 years, including studying geography in French for one year of my undergraduate degree I am also a highly proficient French speaker.
