Why study for the UCAT?
Every year students from around the UK take a fast-paced test that measures skills in science, English language, and mathematics. The UCAT is taken by many aspiring medical, veterinary, dentistry and agricultural students who want to boost their chances of getting into higher education institutions with better offers than those without passing this exam. Many people view it as an essential part of the application process for these degrees because not only does it demonstrate academic ability but also problem-solving abilities which are critical factors when studying STEM subjects at the university level.
There are two elements to your UCAT result. You’ll get between 300 and 900 points for each of the first four sections, and your UCAT result will be this sum combined. You may also see UCAT scores referred to as a three-digit number, which reflects the average of your section performance.
It's important to remember that any career can be rewarding. The key is to make sure you're choosing a career that not only matches your skillset, but also matches the lifestyle you want. If you're looking for a fulfilling and rewarding job that will allow you to help people, healthcare is certainly worth considering. Being the provider of critical services can be a calling at any age. As a healthcare professional your career prospects are typically better than people in other fields. The application process may vary from institution to institution but with booming populations across the world, there will always be demand for health professionals.
What is a good UCAT Score?
Scores above 650 tend to be above average and have been for the past decade. If you have a score above average, you do have more options for medical schools, but many of the applicants are going to have scores well above 650 as well. Medical schools generally rank students against those applying to other schools.
Above 650 is considered a good UCAT score. If you are up against people with scores far above average, ensure you apply to schools that will assess you on several other components, such as your grades and personal statement. Even if you don't have the best UCAT score, a strong personal statement and high grades will boost your application.
Be mindful of the fact that even within this narrow range, a score between 650-700 and 700-750 can be significantly different. Though you earn an above average score, the last score is much closer to an excellent one, and your application may be viewed more favorably.
What is an excellent UCAT score?
If you score above 750, you've really done well! That's a very challenging test. You have many options to choose from as far as the universities you will be submitting your application to. Nevertheless, even in this range, you still need to be strategic in your decisions.
If you have this score, you should be able to apply to almost all medical schools, however, keep in mind that you should still apply strategically because you may have shortcomings in other areas of your application. If your UCAT score is what stands out in your application, then you should definitely apply to highly regarded medical schools such as Newcastle, Edinburgh, Barts The London, and St Andrew's.

Is 'UCAT tutor wanted' a suitable title for my advert?
Although this is maybe not the worst bad opening line, we strongly recommend that you give it some more thought. What do you need? What are you trying to achieve? Think about what level you are and what you need to improve on, whether you need help with GCSE level guidance, or help with a University admissions letter, put it in your advert.
For example, a great opening for many of our clients could be: ‘UCAT support required to help with Oxbridge Admissions Test’. The more details, the better the match!
