KATHRYN $35-45/hr

BA Economics, MSc Computing Science, - York University

I am a trained language coach and have studied how to keep students calm in my classes. Being happy allows them to learn faster. Because I am patient and kind, I can give constructive feedback without any judgement, and my students receive the feedback they need without feeling criticised. They respond by engaging in the lessons more, looking forward to them and performing at a higher level. I am efficient. I do not limit myself to standard coursework and books where a student will repeat things they already know and feel dissatisfied. Because I have studied languages myself, I have first-hand experience of this, and I avoid it for my students. I tailor my classes to each student and their particular needs.

KATHRYN's last completed Admissions IELTS job with Nick: 1-2 hrs/week - I want to improve my English language skills, so I can score above 6.00 points on IELTS needed for admission in university. Please contact me over email so we can schedule a meeting clearing the details of your offer.

KATHRYN's last review in Admissions IELTS from Nick: I am not very impressed of how the teaching was done. Kathryn was not prepared for the lesson at all, I had to waste time waiting for her to open practice tasks and materials. The whole class was going very slow. I did not learn anything new and we did not practice anything regarding IELTS. That was what I paid for. And on top of that, when I asked her to check my Writing task that I have completed offline, she asked for extra money to asset it, which was ridiculous. After requesting to speak with her about my expectation and her teaching methods, she did not reply and blamed Spires. I wouldn't recommend her as IELTS teacher at all.

Sarah $45-55/hr

Psychology - The University of Liverpool

I have 17 years experience teaching, was Head of A Level Psychology in a Sixth Form college and have worked overseas. I gained an 'A' grade at A Level Psychology and love the subject. I helped many students to achieve high grades at A Level Psychology and encouraged them to pursue the subject at university. My favourite topics in psychology are cognitive neuroscience (I did A Level biology too, so this was useful!), relationships, psychopathology, schizophrenia and recently forensic psychology which was added to the recent AQA spec (my professor at uni was Professor Canter whose research you will read about when learning about offender profiling). And of course research methods and maths are important in psychology..... it's not all just about mind reading!

I also have taught English as a second language and can help students to improve their English and prepare for the IELTS exam.

Jude $50-60/hr

PhD - Bath Spa

I have been tutoring for over 20 years and was Head of Department and teacher of English in a leading online school for ten years. I have taught all aspects of English Language and Literature from providing assistance at undergraduate level, through A Levels and GCSEs, down to KS1. What I love about tutoring one-to-one is the building up of a personal relationship with a student and seeing them gain confidence and develop. Every student is different and learns in a different way, and I have a firm belief that, given the right teacher, everyone can do really well in English. I have also taught History to GCSE and KS3 and run Drama groups, and have participated in additional tutoring for LAMDA.
I have 2 TEFL certificates and have tutored for IELTS/TOEFL/C2 as well as having taught practical conversational English to mixed age/ability groups.

Rhiannon $25-35/hr

Modern and Medieval Languages - University of Cambridge

I am a CELTA-qualified teacher, English native speaker and Masters graduate with a broad range of teaching experience, including business English, teaching children and adults, exam preparation, intensive classes and project-based learning. I have taught various levels and class sizes and am skilled at adapting my methods to individual learners. In addition to English, I have taught French, German and Russian, all of which I speak at a C1/C2 level.

In a number of teaching roles, including my current one teaching adult refugees, I have gained experience with a wide range of learner groups and teaching approaches. Having worked sometimes with pre-set curricula but often with the freedom to design my own curriculum, I have built up experience in creating learning programmes that teach and assess material in an engaging, memorable and meaningful way. As a volunteer for online high school Sky School, where I've helped to build the 'English for Changemakers' module, I've gained an insight into how distance education works, what platforms are available for it, and how it can be made impactful for learners.

Rhiannon's last completed Admissions IELTS job with Tina: Intensive - I am aiming for an overall band 7 in IELTS.
