I am an English Literature graduate from Oxford University. I am passionate about educating young people and ensuring they reach their highest potential. To date I have worked as a private tutor, mentor, workshop facilitator and coach. As a private tutor I have taught English at GCSE and A-Level and have prepared Ox-bridge candidates, most of whom have been offered a place at Oxford or Cambridge. I have worked with Eton and Mactrac Digital Education to deliver the Eton X language programme, specialising in leadership and management skills for young students. In this role I have also interviewed and prepared prospective tutors, ensuring that tutors deliver the best in digital education. I continue to find new ways to encourage students to perform as their most confident selves when faced with an academic challenge or when trying to reach a specified goal, such as entry into a desired college or university. I have a body of experience as a workshop facilitator, including using creative writing and drama to help unlock student’s potential. I do this work on a voluntary basis and have used it to help foster confidence and initiative in young people and adults. My focus is goal orientated whilst maintaining a commitment to a highly individualised approach. This is powerful because the student is met on both an educational and personal level, providing an individual , allowing and em...

Carine's last review in Admissions Oxbridge Entrance from Sheila: #2: Intersectionality Carine provided me with some thought-provoking resources in advance of our lesson, which allowed us to explore this week’s topic in greater depth. Her tutoring style involves encouraging me to form my own opinions, whilst introducing new concepts that I had not previously considered. Today, I appreciated Carine giving me extra time to continue our conversation , rather than cutting it short.
I have taught A Level History for twelve years in a sixth form college and I have been tutoring online for two. I am dedicated to helping young people reach their potential and in 2018, my students averaged one grade higher than their predicted A Level grades. I've worked successfully as a tutor for GCSE and A-Level students for a number of years now, helping them drastically improve their grades. I've also done considerable work as a university supervisor and mentor for undergraduate, master's, and first-year doctoral students at the University of Oxford, University of Cambridge, and other institutions. My expertise is in university admissions, and I have recently written a bestselling book on History admissions for Oxford, the Ultimate History Aptitude Test Guide.
My approach is mainly trust based, my students are often amazed by just how much they can do for themselves if they're in a learning environment that isn't adversarial, oppressive, or plain dull. Beyond A-Level, I also have teaching experience at the University of Oxford as a tutor and seminar leader for undergraduate history and sociology students, and I have degrees in both Archaeology and History. My background of experience is technological, and I work as a civilian consultant to the NASA Ames Human Factors laboratory in that capacity. Central to my approach is an understanding that my students are people, with their own unique strengths, weaknesses, and abilities, which need to be nurtured and supported in order to get the best possible results.
In this way, learning can, and should be of a reciprocal exchange of ideas, and by embracing this in a more relaxed and curiosity-driven approach, it becomes far easier for many to explore, absorb, and abstract their understanding of both the surface learning of school qualifications, and the deep learning of the concepts behind them crucial to getting the very highest grades.

Thank you for reading my profile. I have taught A Level and IB Economics, A Level Politics and A Level Business Studies for 16 years and my teaching focuses very much on improving the exam technique of my students. I have been tutoring online for over 6 years. I graduated from Oxford University in 2003 where I studied Politics, Philosophy and Economics and I have been a Head of Economics at top independent schools for 8 years. I have also been a Head of Politics. I am a Qualified Teacher.
Teaching is my passion and I love helping my students to gain confidence in their subjects and to develop their independent thinking skills. My lessons are interactive and I demand a lot from my students because I believe in them. Nothing in my subjects is beyond you, if you are willing to break questions and topics down to their small component parts. I will show you exactly how to do this.
My approach to teaching varies from subject to subject and from pupil to pupil, but I can give you an overview of my general approach now. One of my first goals in classes is to teach my pupils how to understand what an exam question is asking. We do this by breaking questions down, word by word. Next, I provide my pupils with a checklist for how to structure answers so that they can access all of marks available. Then I teach my students how to develop their arguments by asking the questions "why?", "so?" and "how?” in relation to their points, which ensures they provide developed chains of reasoning. Lastly, in every class we revise key concepts and I explain concepts in simple terms using easy to understand examples and I make my students do the same.

1-2 hrs/week - Dear Sir/Madam,
I am looking for a tutor to support my son, Kevin, in his preparation for the TSA exam and interview practice. Please could you let me know if you can cater to this and what the quotes would be?
I look forward to hearing back from you.

Daniel's last completed Admissions Oxbridge Entrance job with Genevieve : Intensive - Would like to ask for help with Cambridge interview preparation for Engineering.
Over the past three years I have carried out 200+ hours of tuition covering GCSE Maths/Science, A-level Science, BMAT, UCAT, personal statements, mock interviews (panel, MMI and Oxbridge) and supercurricular medicine. Through this I have developed effective teaching strategies and resources for the students. Many of my students have gone on to achieve Oxbridge offers and all have achieved at least one medical school offer. My philosophy is to work on the students weaker subjects and skills, and make sure they are fully prepared for all question types.

I have tutored many students from Primary School level through to Cambridge undergraduates - including preparation for GCSEs, A Levels, STEP, UKMT Maths Challenges and private school entrance exams. My experience with a wide range of ages and abilities (as well as other challenges such as a blind GCSE maths student), have given me a well rounded ability to approach problems from the correct direction for the student, as well as the depth of understanding to adapt to a student's preferred methods.
Many of my tutees have gone on to be very successful in their Mathematics, including 100% scores in UKMT Maths Challenges, and scholarships to high profile schools.

Occasional - Hi Laurence,
I've just finished writing the first draft of my personal statement and was wondering if you could provide some feedback/notes on it. Currently it's 600 characters over the limit so I really need someone to help me cut down the bits deemed unnecessary and perhaps give suggestions on fine-tuning the language. It would have to be on pretty short notice. I need to send my UCAS off by this Sunday so I need to get feedback by Friday. What rates would you offer for this service?
