I am a trained language coach and have studied how to keep students calm in my classes. Being happy allows them to learn faster. Because I am patient and kind, I can give constructive feedback without any judgement, and my students receive the feedback they need without feeling criticised. They respond by engaging in the lessons more, looking forward to them and performing at a higher level. I am efficient. I do not limit myself to standard coursework and books where a student will repeat things they already know and feel dissatisfied. Because I have studied languages myself, I have first-hand experience of this, and I avoid it for my students. I tailor my classes to each student and their particular needs.

I am an English Literature graduate from Oxford University. I am passionate about educating young people and ensuring they reach their highest potential. To date I have worked as a private tutor, mentor, workshop facilitator and coach. As a private tutor I have taught English at GCSE and A-Level and have prepared Ox-bridge candidates, most of whom have been offered a place at Oxford or Cambridge. I have worked with Eton and Mactrac Digital Education to deliver the Eton X language programme, specialising in leadership and management skills for young students. In this role I have also interviewed and prepared prospective tutors, ensuring that tutors deliver the best in digital education. I continue to find new ways to encourage students to perform as their most confident selves when faced with an academic challenge or when trying to reach a specified goal, such as entry into a desired college or university. I have a body of experience as a workshop facilitator, including using creative writing and drama to help unlock student’s potential. I do this work on a voluntary basis and have used it to help foster confidence and initiative in young people and adults. My focus is goal orientated whilst maintaining a commitment to a highly individualised approach. This is powerful because the student is met on both an educational and personal level, providing an individual , allowing and em...

job with Lorna:
Occasional - Hello, I am looking for a tutor to look over my daughter’s personal statement, her preferred choice is to study English at Oxford. She is currently in year 13 study English Literature, Latin and Philosophy at A-Level.
Ella 's last review in Admissions from Gabe: A very good start. Thank-you.
I've worked successfully as a tutor for GCSE and A-Level students for a number of years now, helping them drastically improve their grades. I've also done considerable work as a university supervisor and mentor for undergraduate, master's, and first-year doctoral students at the University of Oxford, University of Cambridge, and other institutions. My approach is mainly trust based, my students are often amazed by just how much they can do for themselves if they're in a learning environment that isn't adversarial, oppressive, or plain dull. Beyond A-Level, I also have teaching experience at the University of Oxford as a tutor and seminar leader for undergraduate history and sociology students, and I have degrees in both Archaeology and History. My background of experience is technological, and I work as a civilian consultant to the NASA Ames Human Factors laboratory in that capacity. Central to my approach is an understanding that my students are people, with their own unique strengths, weaknesses, and abilities, which need to be nurtured and supported in order to get the best possible results.
In this way, learning can, and should be of a reciprocal exchange of ideas, and by embracing this in a more relaxed and curiosity-driven approach, it becomes far easier for many to explore, absorb, and abstract their understanding of both the surface learning of school qualifications, and the deep learning of the concepts behind them crucial to getting the very highest grades.

Federico's last completed Admissions job with Steven: 1-2 hrs/week - I’m Steven from Scotland and needs help with MAT.
Federico's last review in Admissions from Steven: 2016 MAT This is my last lesson with Federico before the real MAT exam and I know I’ll be missing him after I’ve finished the MAT. Federico is the best maths teacher ever and one of the best MAT tutor available online. He is really patient when teaching lessons and when I didn’t understand a concept, he was always patient enough to explain it again until I get it completely, and as a result of it, all of my lessons wth him were extended but with no additional cost. When he is teaching a concept, such as the binomial probability and transformation of points by applying matrices, he was always able to find real life examples, which makes learning really interesting and makes maths fun. Federico always encourages me to ask questions, but sometimes I was too shy to ask. Federico was able to notice it every time since I sounded confused, and he would give me a more thorough explanation to make sure I understand everything. Sometimes, he asks me to explain things in my own words to him again after he have done the explanation just to make sure that I’m not pretending. As a result, I learned a lot from each lessons. After the lessons were finished, I were given problems to complete. A lot of times, I could only do one or two of the questions, but he was always very supportive and helpful. He marked my answers with no additional charge and were able to recognize that my attempts were really good though I couldn’t arrive at the final solution, and he were always able to give me informative hints and feedback quickly. He was also extremely nice; when I got rejected by unis, he gave me lots of encouragement and when I got accepted, he congratulated me. I wasn’t able to find a test centre nearer the time of the deadline, and he helped me to make phone calls to several test centers for which I really appreciate. I really couldn’t thank him enough for all of his help!
I have various experiences of teaching, coaching, tutoring and generally mentoring others. My most recent experience involved consistently and successfully tutoring an A-level law student, and giving in-depth feedback to multiple different students on their personal statements, as well as offering specific advice on entrance exam and interview technique to students applying to Cambridge. Although these experiences are academic, I also have various experiences of coaching and teaching students on a much broader level. The most significant example of this is coaching junior debaters for two years.
My approach to teaching is extremely individualistic. I appreciate the fact that every student has a different way of learning, whether it be visually, orally or by any other means. So my approach to tutoring is understanding what exactly the student would like to get out of tutoring and the best way to engage in the subject with them. An important part of this, is providing very specific feedback. It is very easy for a tutor to give general feedback on a subject matter. It takes much more for a tutor to tailor their feedback specifically to the individual. I prefer the tailored approach.
Cory's last completed Admissions job with Hyunki: Intensive - need some advice for Cambridge law test and interview
I have tutored numerous students towards helping them achieve their ideal exam score. I take a kind and caring approach to tutoring that allow my students to wonder about the question and tricks to solve it. The goal is to make them enjoy mathematics and improve exam scores at the same time.
Matthew's last completed Admissions job with theobald: Over 2 hrs/week - i need help in working towards my GMAT test that is going to take place on the 30th July. My maths skills have always been strong but i have not done maths in about 3 years so i will need to go over topics.
Matthew's last review in Admissions from theobald: Matthew helped me with the mathematical part of the GMAT. He was a very good tutor in helping me gain a good understanding of what was needed to be done. He also has a large range of practise questions with answers which was a great help for doing individual work. Furthermore he provided me with a booklet he made himself with all the the formulas one would need for the GMAT which was a great help when working on my own in understanding the maths. Would highly recommend.
