Online Astronomy Tutoring FAQs

Why study astronomy?

Astronomy is the oldest of all sciences. It deals with the study of stars, their energies, composition, positions, motions, and interactions. It also involves the study of individual stars within our Milky Way galaxy and galaxies outside the Milky Way. By studying astronomy, we can learn about physics that cannot be replicated on Earth and expand our understanding of the universe.

An astronomer understands how stars, planets, and other objects interact with each other. They can predict unusual events in the sky and provide critical information for research teams like NASA.

What university degrees is astronomy useful for?

If you have already taken GCSE astronomy and relevant subjects at A-level (or equivalent) and want to learn more, an undergraduate degree in astronomy or astrophysics might be right for you. The curriculum includes an in-depth study of physics, advanced math courses, and practical skills like using telescopes and state-of-the-art equipment.

Additionally, students interested in astronomy can choose courses such as astrobiology, igneous petrology, cosmology, optical physics, and electromagnetism.

What careers can studying astronomy lead to?

Studying astronomy opens up a variety of career opportunities. You can be involved in research to find new planets, explore the depths of our universe, or work in observatories giving tours to visitors. Other career paths include maintaining equipment like telescopes, leading workshops on scientific discoveries, and teaching others about space in planetariums and museums. There are also jobs available at government agencies like NASA.

How can expert tutoring help you?

Expert tutors assess your starting point and develop a personalized syllabus to help you achieve your goals. Lessons focus on your weaknesses and building confidence in the subject. Tutors also push you in areas where you are already comfortable, encouraging constant improvement and positive learning habits.

Private help made easy!

Does it matter if I have an astronomy tutor near me?

No, it doesn’t! It’s all done online wherever you are. All you have to do is pick your ideal private tutor and speak to them to arrange the best time for you to have video lessons. It doesn’t matter at all if they are miles and miles (or kilometres and kilometres) away from you!

Who will my tutor be?

This is all up to you. You have a huge choice. You can look through our member tutor profiles, check student reviews and bids, their qualifications and backgrounds, hourly rates, hours taught, other subjects they teach – and even check out if they have many repeat students.

Then, communicate with your favourites to see if they are right for your needs and learning style. You can have a free video call by webcam, usually over zoom. Then you pick the person you’d like to help with your studies and schedule your first webcam lesson!

How many tutors are available to give private lessons?

We currently have over 11 astronomy tutors with academic and professional experience specializing in a wide range of topics from GCSEs to postgraduate support, and everything in between.

What qualifications do tutors need?

All of our tutors must hold at least a Bachelor’s degree and have tutoring experience. Most have higher degrees on top of that, in specialized areas such as Master’s degrees or PhDs. All of our tutors are DBS checked or have had equivalent background checks.

Tuition is priced according to level:

1. School level: For Primary school, Secondary and Higher Education prices start at €25/hr

2. University level: For Undergraduate and Postgraduate tuition, prices start at €35/hr

3. Professional level: For Chartered Qualifications and Admissions Test tutoring, prices start at €45/hr.

The average price per hour ranges based on the tutors’ experience, expertise, and student’s level.

The average tutor rate per hour for online astronomy tutoring in London ranges from €30/hr to €40/hr. However, the actual price may vary depending on the tutor’s qualifications, experience, and the level of study. It’s always best to check individual tutor profiles for their specific rates.

What if I need to cancel or reschedule a lesson?

If you need to cancel or reschedule a lesson, it’s important to communicate with your astronomy tutor as soon as possible. They will understand that unforeseen circumstances may arise. Many tutors have their own cancellation and rescheduling policies, so make sure to discuss this with them beforehand.

By notifying your tutor in advance, you can often avoid any penalties or additional charges. Keep in mind that last-minute cancellations or frequent rescheduling may have an impact on the tutor’s availability and willingness to continue tutoring you.

What if I’m not satisfied with the tutoring experience?

We strive to provide a positive and rewarding tutoring experience for all our students. If you’re not satisfied with the tutoring experience, we encourage you to first discuss your concerns with your astronomy tutor.

Many tutors are open to feedback and willing to address any issues or areas of improvement. By communicating your concerns, you give them an opportunity to make necessary adjustments and ensure a better experience for you.

In case you are unable to resolve the issue with your tutor, please reach out to our support team. We will be happy to assist you and help find a suitable solution.

What happens when I send a message?

Once you’ve used the Find A Tutor feature to find your perfect astronomy tutor online, you can contact them with any questions you might have or even meet in advance. A tutor should respond to you within 24 hours with an answer and their available hours. If your selected tutor isn’t able to fit you into their schedule, we will recommend others that fit your specifications. After a tutor replies, you can then schedule a free webcam meeting, and if you are satisfied, you can go ahead and schedule your first astronomy tutoring lesson!
