University of Oxford Master's Graduate in Mathematics and Philosophy
• First Class Honours UG
• Awarded 2020 Gibbs Prize for performance in Mathematics examinations
I specialize in online one-to-one tuition for Maths and Computer Science-related Oxbridge applications, with over 1500 hours experience. In the past two years, I’ve helped 8 students receive offers to study at Oxford and Cambridge through my tuition. Students I’ve taught have also received offers from Imperial and LSE.
Ever since mentoring students at the Oxford Mathematical Institute, my main passion has been supporting students in their university applications, primarily MAT, TMUA and interview preparation. I enjoy seeing students develop their curiosity for mathematics, asking “What if?”, “Why not?” and using techniques creatively to solve problems. In classes, I teach how to proactively extend problems so you can get the most out of each question you do. Each lesson we cover tricky areas of homework exercises and past paper questions. In this way, my lessons are very similar to the Maths tutorials that Oxbridge undergraduates have with their professors.
Oxbridge Maths Admissions Specialist with over 1500 hours experience tutoring students to success in the MAT, TMUA, Maths interview preparation and personal statement. Winner of the 2020 Oxford Gibb’s Prize for Performance in Mathematics. Graduated from Oxford with First Class Honours in Mathematics and Philosophy UG. I've also tutored undergraduate pure maths, STEP and A-level Maths/FM.
In the past two years, I’ve helped 8 students receive offers to study at Oxford and Cambridge through my tuition. Colleges include Balliol, Exeter and Girton.
Resources I offer include typed guides for every MAT & TMUA topic; challenging exercise sheets with 300+ questions; mock papers using the new exam format; and my Oxbridge interview question bank. All my resources are original, and comprise my private textbook to boost your independent preparation. Student feedback across thousands of hours have helped me optimize these to convey concepts as clearly as possible.
During my degree I worked as a Student Mentor at the Oxford Mathematical Institute, supporting pupils in their MAT preparation. I’ve led MAT, problem-solving and personal statement seminars, later going on to produce full video courses on the MAT, TMUA and Oxbridge Maths interviews. I am highly experienced with conducting mock interviews, teaching students how to articulate their thoughts, break down complex problems, and proactively generalize new concepts to show enthusiasm.
I have also tutored A-level, STEP, and undergraduate Pure Maths topics including Linear Algebra, Calculus, Real and Complex Analysis, Groups, Rings, Set Theory and MVC for Economics.

Richard has been a fantastic tutor. He has helped me understand maths on another level, beyond just the numbers on a page. Richard's help with preparing for the MAT has made a significant difference to my preparation with exam specific strategies, and detailed resources to help with my preparation. He has helped me develop new perspectives for solving maths problems, which has allowed me to tackle a much greater number of problems in maths. Every session was very productive. Thank you, Richard. I am very grateful for your help.
Definitely one of the best tutors I've ever worked with. I learnt so much more than I expected to and the resources I was provided with were very helpful. Highly recommend.
Really good first session - personalised help
Extremely helpful, thanks!
Hi Richard — just wanted to follow up and send you a massive thank you for all your help. Scored 81 on the MAT, had a decent interview, and Merton formally/officially/bureaucratically approved the transfer last week…I’m now a Maths and Philosophy student! Thank you :D - Lydia
Hi Richard. Just so you know, I have received an offer this morning for Exeter College (the college I was allocated to via the open application). Thank you so much for your help in achieving this, all the best. - Bernie
Hi Richard, Today I received an offer from Oxford - thanks very much for all your help during the admissions process, it really made a big difference. Kind regards - Barnaby
Hi Richard, Just wanted to let you know I got an offer from Oxford. Thank you for all your help! Many thanks - Ethan
We are really happy we can have such an excellent professional to work with our son. He seems to know very well, how to make our son work hard and keep him interested at the same time. We really like it, since we think taking more challenges is the only way to improve in a subject. We had multiple tutors before and we like Richard the most. We can easily rate him 10 out of 10 - Sandra
