Kate $40-50/hr

English Literature, Literature and Education - University of Cambridge

I am a professional tutor who graduated from Cambridge with a 1st class BA degree and an MPhil in Education and Literature - I have been tutoring ever since.

I tailor my tutoring to best fit my student's needs and learning style. With extensive experience ranging from primary to undergraduate students, I am confident tutoring for students of different ability and interest levels.

As a published academic writer with experience of private school and Oxbridge admissions processes, I am further confident tutoring to an extremely high level of tuition for a number of top-level schools and universities. Past students have gone on to study at Harrow, Eton, a number of London private schools and of course Oxford and Cambridge, among other universities.

My successes with students are not only due to my own expertise, however, but to my passion for inspiring a love of English in my students as well! During our time together my students not only come to feel more confident in the subject, but also to enjoy it!

georgie $50-60/hr

2.1 - University of Oxford

She finds that academic success is best achieved when students are really engaged with their subject. Georgie enables her tutees to get the grades they want but also teaches students to read deeply; skills which will benefit them throughout their education and later life. She finds that such a focus also helps students develop lateral thinking methods, important for Oxbridge interview.

She has wide experience teaching a range of subjects and syllabuses - from Primary to Undergraduate. She is experienced with a range of exam boards including Edexcel, AQA, Pre-U, OCR and WJEC.

Toby $55-65/hr

History of Technology - University of Oxford

I've worked successfully as a tutor for GCSE and A-Level students for a number of years now, helping them drastically improve their grades. My approach is mainly trust based, my students are often amazed by just how much they can do for themselves if they're in a learning environment that isn't adversarial, oppressive, or plain dull. Beyond A-Level, I have also worked for the University of Oxford as a tutor and seminar leader to undergraduate history and sociology students, and I have degrees in both Archaeology and History. My background of experience is technological, and I work as a civilian consultant to the NASA Ames Human Factors laboratory in that capacity. Central to my approach is an understanding that my students are people, with their own unique strengths, weaknesses, and abilities, which need to be nurtured and supported in order to get the best possible results.

In this way, learning becomes more of a reciprocal exchange of ideas, and through a more relaxed and curiosity-driven approach, it becomes far easier for many to explore, absorb, and abstract their understanding of both the surface learning of school qualifications, and the deep learning of the concepts behind them crucial to getting the very highest grades.

I have been a teacher of Geography since 2003 and have worked in many successful secondary schools. I have been a Head of Geography in two schools for a period of 7 years. I have taught in a range of different schools from state to girls grammar and an independent school.

I have also tutored students from Marlborough College, Godolphin School and Mount Kelly School, all prestigious independent schools and have enabled the students to achieve very high grades.

I have been for several years an expert examiner for Edexcel for GCSE and A Level Geography. This has given me an inside knowledge as to what exam boards expect and look for in the answers of students.

Christopher $45-55/hr

PhD in History - King's College London

I recently received my PhD in History at King’s College London. Whilst I would consider myself a historian of modern British, social and cultural history, during my studies at BA, MA and doctorate level I have also acquired expertise in an array of diverse historical eras and themes. I also taught history undergraduate seminars at KCL on various modules including Early Modern Europe, Modern Britain, and History and Memory. During my years teaching history at KCL, I taught hundreds of students of varying abilities and I really enjoyed helping develop their historical learning and sharing my passion for history whilst nurturing theirs. My tutoring sessions are tailored towards the specific needs and goals of my students. Whether these are improving grades, keeping on top of homework, preparation for coursework and exams, or simply needing an explanation of specific concepts, I’m here to provide a session that meets your requirements. I will identify both short and long term issues the student may have with their courses, and establish solutions and goals for solving them. History learning can often be typecast as a monotonous process of memorising dates, speeches and battles, and I want to encourage my students to adopt different ways of thinking about history that encourage critical analysis and varying interpretations of the past.

Christopher's last completed IGCSE job with Eli: Intensive - Hi. My son is home-schooled with an online provider studying the following topics in IGCSE History Edexcel

3) Germany: development of dictatorship, 1918–45
7) A divided union: civil rights in the USA, 1945–74
A3 The USA, 1918–41
B5 The changing role of international organisations: the league and the UN, 1919–c2011

He would really benefit from some exam technique help in structuring his 6/8/16 mark questions. Exams in June 19!

Kind regards
Cindy

Daniella $30-40/hr

German - University of Oxford

I have over four years of experience as a one-to-one tutor, teaching primary school students right through to adult learners. My aim as a tutor is to make the examination experience as painless possible, equipping tutees with the confidence and capabilities they need to ace their goals - and to have some fun along the way!

There can be no one-size-fits-all formula when it comes to a tutoring session. Every tutee has different likes and dislikes, strengths and weaknesses, and will progress at an individual pace. I'm able to help with anything from oral presentations and spoken fluency, to essays, literature, and grammar (having personally tried all the tips and tricks!).

My lessons are designed to challenge, not to overstretch. I set regular quizzes to check tutees’ progress - as well as asking for frequent feedback so I can make sure to be the best tutor I can be. We don't always understand things from the word go - and that's perfectly okay. But if you or your child needs a helping hand from someone who's experienced as both a tutor and a student themselves, I’m here to help.

Daniella's last completed IGCSE job with Nicki: 1-2 hrs/week - My daughter is 15 and good at German but has a poor teacher at school they are very behind with the IGCSE syllabus. She takes that next summer. She has not got the tenses yet and i think it would be good to work up from these as a foundation.

Grant $35-45/hr

Chemical Engineering - University of Cape Town

The subjects that I primarily tutor are Physics, Mathematics and Chemistry. My 4 years of tutoring experience has found me tutoring students from year 8 to year 11 and providing valuable SAT preparation lessons.
I am fully aware of the GCSE/pre-GSCE subject matter and requirements. I have tutored numerous international students and their improvements stand testament to my ability to tutor various syllabuses. In addition, the 2 years of calculus, 2 years of chemistry and 1 year of physics that I completed at university, has adequately prepared me for all content appearing in different syllabuses.
Most of my client base is a result of referrals from other students, due to their improvements and belief within my tutoring capabilities. My tutoring ethos is built around a core of patience, passion and pride within my student's success. My experience has taught me valuable techniques for explaining difficult concepts in an easy to understand manner. I always recommend practicing the covered content after the lesson, and provide my own problems/questions if there aren't any available. I also provide lessons for overall test/exam preparation where I provide useful time saving tips among other things.

Chloe $40-50/hr

Engineering Science (Biomedical) - University of Oxford

I am a volunteer for a number of organisations which aim to help disadvantaged students reach university and have tutored a number of students to success in their exams so I have a lot of experience of working with young people and helping them to reach their potential. I am happy to help as a subject specific tutor for GCSE or A-Level, or help students through the sometimes daunting university application process and admissions tests.

About my tutorials:
Sessions are always student-led. I plan tutorials which reflect the student's level of understanding, giving access to notes, including suggested exam questions, which the student can add to during the tutorial, or use as a memory-aid following the tutorial.
I have received lots of positive feedback about this approach.
I can also help students through questions or tasks which they bring, and the best tutorials involve this collaborative input.
The pace of sessions is determined by the student, and I am happy to go through any topic with a number of different approaches until we find one which the student finds helpful.
