I have taught everything from music theory to English as far afield as New York and Madagascar, in classrooms, 1-to-1 and online. I have a Congratulatory First in Modern Languages from Oxford and have been tutoring a range of subjects for the last 9 years. I also have experience of living, working and studying in both France and Germany. Although my style of teaching is friendly and laid-back, I take immense pleasure from academic achievement and from inspiring others to achieve their academic goals.

I've worked successfully as a tutor for GCSE and A-Level students for a number of years now, helping them drastically improve their grades. I've also done considerable work as a university supervisor and mentor for undergraduate, master's, and first-year doctoral students at the University of Oxford, University of Cambridge, and other institutions. My expertise is in university admissions, and I have recently written a bestselling book on History admissions for Oxford, the Ultimate History Aptitude Test Guide.
My approach is mainly trust based, my students are often amazed by just how much they can do for themselves if they're in a learning environment that isn't adversarial, oppressive, or plain dull. Beyond A-Level, I also have teaching experience at the University of Oxford as a tutor and seminar leader for undergraduate history and sociology students, and I have degrees in both Archaeology and History. My background of experience is technological, and I work as a civilian consultant to the NASA Ames Human Factors laboratory in that capacity. Central to my approach is an understanding that my students are people, with their own unique strengths, weaknesses, and abilities, which need to be nurtured and supported in order to get the best possible results.
In this way, learning can, and should be of a reciprocal exchange of ideas, and by embracing this in a more relaxed and curiosity-driven approach, it becomes far easier for many to explore, absorb, and abstract their understanding of both the surface learning of school qualifications, and the deep learning of the concepts behind them crucial to getting the very highest grades.

I have taught A Level History for twelve years in a sixth form college and I have been tutoring online for two. I am dedicated to helping young people reach their potential and in 2018, my students averaged one grade higher than their predicted A Level grades. I have a great deal of experience in working one-to-one with students and I always aim to make my tutorials enjoyable and supportive, whilst encouraging great progress with both coursework and exam preparation. I have also assisted over a hundred students with their Oxbridge applications, and I work closely with university admission tutors. Over 2 hrs/week - Hi. I'm looking for a tutor specifically for GRE Analytical Writing section. I'm aiming for score around 4.5 - 5.0 to apply for Columbia University in Social Science.
I'm actually a researcher and an occasional writer. I also frequently write articles in English so I was surprised that I got GRE AW score of only 3.5 last month.
I'm taking GRE test again at the end of December.
I'm living outside of the US.
PHILLIPPA's last review in Admissions from Pii: GRE Analytical Writing guide and writing feedback Very great session as she really helped me thinking the whole time rather than spoon-feeding the answers to me. This actually helps me see the flaws in my logic.
I have taught first year undergraduates in Imperial College focusing on improving problem solving skills. I have been employed by the university to teach in summer courses preparing pupils for the MAT. I have also taught privately covering the syllabi of A-levels and IB.
Federico's last completed Admissions job with Steven: 1-2 hrs/week - I’m Steven from Scotland and needs help with MAT.
Federico's last review in Admissions from Steven: 2016 MAT This is my last lesson with Federico before the real MAT exam and I know I’ll be missing him after I’ve finished the MAT. Federico is the best maths teacher ever and one of the best MAT tutor available online. He is really patient when teaching lessons and when I didn’t understand a concept, he was always patient enough to explain it again until I get it completely, and as a result of it, all of my lessons wth him were extended but with no additional cost. When he is teaching a concept, such as the binomial probability and transformation of points by applying matrices, he was always able to find real life examples, which makes learning really interesting and makes maths fun. Federico always encourages me to ask questions, but sometimes I was too shy to ask. Federico was able to notice it every time since I sounded confused, and he would give me a more thorough explanation to make sure I understand everything. Sometimes, he asks me to explain things in my own words to him again after he have done the explanation just to make sure that I’m not pretending. As a result, I learned a lot from each lessons. After the lessons were finished, I were given problems to complete. A lot of times, I could only do one or two of the questions, but he was always very supportive and helpful. He marked my answers with no additional charge and were able to recognize that my attempts were really good though I couldn’t arrive at the final solution, and he were always able to give me informative hints and feedback quickly. He was also extremely nice; when I got rejected by unis, he gave me lots of encouragement and when I got accepted, he congratulated me. I wasn’t able to find a test centre nearer the time of the deadline, and he helped me to make phone calls to several test centers for which I really appreciate. I really couldn’t thank him enough for all of his help!
I am ambitious for my students and my lessons are intensive, refreshing and tailored very specifically to your needs.
I do exam preparation for IELTS and TOEFL.

Dorcas's last completed Admissions job with Ping: 1-2 hrs/week -
Dorcas's last review in Admissions from Ping: Dorcas is a very outstanding tutor. She could find out the problems of me, and could help me figure out them efficiently. Moreover, she is really patient and kind. I strongly recommend Dorcas to everyone.
I have various experiences of teaching, coaching, tutoring and generally mentoring others. My most recent experience involved consistently and successfully tutoring an A-level law student, and giving in-depth feedback to multiple different students on their personal statements, as well as offering specific advice on entrance exam and interview technique to students applying to Cambridge. Although these experiences are academic, I also have various experiences of coaching and teaching students on a much broader level. The most significant example of this is coaching junior debaters for two years.
My approach to teaching is extremely individualistic. I appreciate the fact that every student has a different way of learning, whether it be visually, orally or by any other means. So my approach to tutoring is understanding what exactly the student would like to get out of tutoring and the best way to engage in the subject with them. An important part of this, is providing very specific feedback. It is very easy for a tutor to give general feedback on a subject matter. It takes much more for a tutor to tailor their feedback specifically to the individual. I prefer the tailored approach.
Cory's last completed Admissions job with Hyunki: Intensive - need some advice for Cambridge law test and interview
I have 4 years of experience working as a student ambassador for the Cambridge Admissions Office. Through this role I have participated in several residential summer schools, assisting students with academic sessions in Psychology by ensuring that the students understood the material that was being covered in the lectures. I have also assisted during subject masterclasses in a variety of subjects, as well as giving presentations and providing advice on the university admission process. This has allowed me to remain up to date with the latest entrance requirements, as well as gain a first-hand look at the qualities that admission teams look for in a prospective student. I have also led sessions in my old school on writing a good personal statement and preparing for university interviews. In addition, I privately tutored friends in my spare time at university, both in Biology and Psychology, which allowed me to explore different ways of teaching and explaining complex ideas in easy-to-digest terms.
