I have been teaching languages for more than 15 years long and always improving and getting new ways and methods to teach.
Through my tutoring experience, I have learned to be a personable teacher and mentor. I have taught English for two months in Rio de Janeiro at a charity school called Solar Meninos de Luz. In London, I have several years worth of experience teaching French, Spanish, Portuguese and English (all as foreign languages). I have prepared students for exams at OCR and Edexcel GCSE, as well as AQA A-Level and Cambridge Pre-U. I aim to make learning fun and interactive, and so I use technology such as graphic tablets as well as word games provided by Memrise.
My Modern Languages course at Oxford University has prepared me for tutoring. Having benefited from weekly face-to-face discussions with tutors, I appreciate the value of personalised tutoring and committing to ambitious exam and university entrance objectives.
My experiences of tutoring in a school as well as teaching drama have taught me that people learn in different ways, and that it's important to be able to adopt a style of tutoring that works for your student. Not everyone gets everything the first time around (least of all me), but at the same time you don't want to spend ages on something you know you understand. As a tutor I am both patient and challenging, whichever is appropriate to the student and their circumstances.
I have been a language teacher since 1997 and started teaching online back in 2004.
I lived in London for 8.5 years where I taught both English and Portuguese also worked as face-to-face interpreting.
Teaching is my main and only occupation, I love teaching groups, 1-2-1 and online. I really enjoy sharing my knowledge while I learn a lot about the students' culture and their professional. I try my best to make the student feels like s/he is with his/her best friend at a café, creating a nice environment and giving the best support the student needs.
I am an instructor of Portuguese at the University of York, I obtained my BA in English and Portuguese language teaching and linguistics from PUC-SP in 2008.
In 2010 I obtained an MSc in Developmental Linguistics at the University of Edinburgh. The same year I also obtained the CELTA certificate.
I have been teaching languages for 10 years. I have taught English in Brazil. I have also taught Portuguese in Italy. Since 2014 I have been teaching Portuguese in many levels in a variety of languages schools in England. I am specialized in preparing students to seat for proficiency exams, in the last two years I have worked as oral GCSE examiner.
In January 2018, I have started to teach Italian, and in the same year I finished my PhD in Linguistics at the University of Sheffield. I have been teaching online and taking courses about it since 2016.
Effective teachers are the ones who are completely taken by the sheer feeling of making a difference through education, they buy a one-way ticket for an endless rollercoaster full of hopes, fears, people, books and rewarding moments. I am one of these people and this is what drives me professionally. I have a Bachelor of Arts – Portuguese and English and I also hold an internationally recognized qualification in the TEFL area. I am an experienced and committed language teacher who enjoys meeting new people, getting to know their goals when it comes to learning another language and provide them with fun and creative and lessons.
My real strength is sustaining the student's determination and interest despite the challenging task that is learning a foreign language; with great enthusiasm, I fit language learning into interesting and emotive subjects which show not only the language but also the culture and idiosyncrasies of the country.
