History - University of Cambridge

I have three years’ experience tutoring the humanities in person and online. I have an excellent track record of preparing students for English and History to GCSE, IB, and A-Level.

In Summer 2016, I helped a student go from a D to an A in A-Level History resits. The previous year, one of my students went from a U-grade mock to a B in GCSE English in the space of 6 weeks.

In addition to my BA in History from the University of Cambridge (2013), I hold an MA by Research in History and Music from Durham University (2015, AHRC Scholarship).

Elizabeth's last completed GCSE History job with Maria: 2_HOURS - Prepare a bright, enthusiastic homeschooled student for november 2018 examinations. Will be responsible for planning and teaching curriculum. Student lives in Bali, Indonesia , and because of time difference we can be very flexible. A playful, sunny disposition is a bonus.

Thomas $45-55/hr

History - University of Edinburgh

I am a qualified and experienced history teacher as well as A Level examiner/marker. I have taught students to the highest level, achieving grade 9s at GCSE and A*s at A Level, including those who have found elements of the subject challenging. I have experience for several exam boards and multiple topics and have also taught the coursework element of the A Level, with my marking being described as 'exemplary' by the moderators. History is a subject that everyone is able to succeed in and I believe in making the tasks seem as simple as possible, breaking down exam techniques into easy strategies and focusing on useful, relevant content. I have a Master's degree in history and am currently studying for a PhD, focusing on 17th Century England.

Thomas's last completed GCSE History job with Dean: 1-2 hrs/week - My son is currently in Year 11 at a local non selective school. He desperately wants to enter Sixth Form but his GCSE mock results are not at the required standard for Sixth form entry. He is an extremely well behaved and polite young man, but has always struggled academically. He would very much like to study Art, DT and History at A level, but his mock grades were as follows.

English Language 3
English Literature 2
Mathematics (foundation) 3
Science (foundation) 4-3
History 3
Design Technology 6
Art 7

Please can someone help our very kind, polite and well behaved son to achieve his ambition of studying for A levels.

He requires 5 GCSE grades between 4 & 9 and three GCSEs at grade 6 in subject which he would like to study at A level. He reached the required standard for Art and DT, but only achieved a 3 in History. We feel that if he could turn the 3 that he received in History into a 6 in the actual History GCSE exam he would be accepted into Sixth form. As long as he can also achieve a grade 4 in Mathematics and English!

Any advice and assistance as to which subjects that you feel would be the best to be tutored in would be greatly appreciated.

Kind Regards

Mr Waller

Thomas's last review in GCSE History from Dean: Free meeting Excellent meeting. Very helpful.

Hannah $40-50/hr

BA History - Oxford University

I have a broad range of experience in teaching English, Chinese and Spanish speaking students between the ages 4-18 (in language learning, culture and history), so I have good communication skills for diverse age groups and backgrounds. I have been in the English, Chinese and Mexican schooling systems and so adapt well to different learning styles.

My degree at Oxford was in History so I spent a lot of time in the one-on-one tutorials, and so also understand the tutee experience. I am organised and work hard on making my teaching fun and dynamic so that classes are as productive and enjoyable as possible! The relationship between students and tutor is really important for me.

Dr Chris $55-65/hr

PhD in History - King's College London

I have over 300 hours of history tutoring experience online, and I am particularly well versed on the requirements for the OCR, AQA and Edexcel exam board. My tutoring sessions are tailored towards the specific needs and goals of my students. Whether these are improving grades, keeping on top of homework, preparation for coursework and exams, or simply needing an explanation of specific concepts, I’m here to provide a session that meets your requirements. I will identify both short and long term issues the student may have with their courses, and establish solutions and goals for solving them. I particularly aim to help students improve their writing and exam essay techniques. I use a simple but effective system for this: firstly by using exercises designed to improve understanding and appreciation of the requirements of exam essay questions, followed by introducing skills and techniques for constructing time-efficient essay plans, and finally a rigorous focus on improving writing quality, essay structure, critical analysis and argument development through practice essays with extensive feedback. Using this system I have helped students dramatically improve their exam essay writing techniques and achieve the higher grades they were aiming for.

Natalya $49/hr

2:1 - Oxford

I have taught A Level History for twelve years in a sixth form college and I have been tutoring online for two. I am dedicated to helping young people reach their potential and in 2018, my students averaged one grade higher than their predicted A Level grades. I have a great deal of experience in working one-to-one with students and I always aim to make my tutorials enjoyable and supportive, whilst encouraging great progress with both coursework and exam preparation. I have also assisted over a hundred students with their Oxbridge applications, and I work closely with university admission tutors. I am experienced in helping students prepare personal statements and applications, as well as in providing mock interviews and advice on admissions tests.

Natalya's last completed GCSE History job with Sofia: Occasional - Hello, it is a pleasure to meet you. I hope you are doing well, considering the current climate of uncertainty.

For this task, I would like you to mark my answers for the History CIE Paper 2 which I have completed, give me a relevant mark for each question and offer me feedback as to how I could improve my answers in order to get full marks.

I would like you to asses my work an examiner but also pinpoint and explain to me the things which I might have misinterpreted and did not have to include. If possible, could you please give me a detailed account of what was done well and what I can improve.

If that is alright with you, I would rather you help me offline with this task and then offer me the relevant feedback in a document with accompanying comments.

There are a couple of questions which I was unsure about, and these were questions 4,5 and 6, which is why I would like you to look at them in more detail.

This is the relevant mark scheme for this paper. It starts with page 53.

I have been tutoring since 2014. I worked as a tutor throughout my time as an undergraduate at the University of Oxford and graduate at the University of Cambridge. Toby $55-65/hr

History of Technology - University of Oxford

I've worked successfully as a tutor for GCSE and A-Level students for a number of years now, helping them drastically improve their grades. I've also done considerable work as a university supervisor and mentor for undergraduate, master's, and first-year doctoral students at the University of Oxford, University of Cambridge, and other institutions. My expertise is in university admissions, and I have recently written a bestselling book on History admissions for Oxford, the Ultimate History Aptitude Test Guide.

My approach is mainly trust based, my students are often amazed by just how much they can do for themselves if they're in a learning environment that isn't adversarial, oppressive, or plain dull. Beyond A-Level, I also have teaching experience at the University of Oxford as a tutor and seminar leader for undergraduate history and sociology students, and I have degrees in both Archaeology and History. My background of experience is technological, and I work as a civilian consultant to the NASA Ames Human Factors laboratory in that capacity. Central to my approach is an understanding that my students are people, with their own unique strengths, weaknesses, and abilities, which need to be nurtured and supported in order to get the best possible results.

In this way, learning can, and should be of a reciprocal exchange of ideas, and by embracing this in a more relaxed and curiosity-driven approach, it becomes far easier for many to explore, absorb, and abstract their understanding of both the surface learning of school qualifications, and the deep learning of the concepts behind them crucial to getting the very highest grades.

Toby's last completed GCSE History job with Radha : 1-2 hrs/week - My son needs help with preparing for his history gcse exams: past papers in particularly essay structure and how to answer questions.

He has a broken collarbone so off school for the next 3 weeks so daytime sessions will be also fine until he returns back to school.

Many thanks,
Radha Deb
