I am an English Literature graduate from Oxford University. I am passionate about educating young people and ensuring they reach their highest potential. To date I have worked as a private tutor, mentor, workshop facilitator and coach. As a private tutor I have taught English at GCSE and A-Level and have prepared Ox-bridge candidates, most of whom have been offered a place at Oxford or Cambridge. I have worked with Eton and Mactrac Digital Education to deliver the Eton X language programme, specialising in leadership and management skills for young students. In this role I have also interviewed and prepared prospective tutors, ensuring that tutors deliver the best in digital education. I continue to find new ways to encourage students to perform as their most confident selves when faced with an academic challenge or when trying to reach a specified goal, such as entry into a desired college or university. I have a body of experience as a workshop facilitator, including using creative writing and drama to help unlock student’s potential. I do this work on a voluntary basis and have used it to help foster confidence and initiative in young people and adults. My focus is goal orientated whilst maintaining a commitment to a highly individualised approach. This is powerful because the student is met on both an educational and personal level, providing an individual , allowing and em...

Ella 's last review in GCSE English Literature from Simon : Revision Very helpful! Useful revision of essay structure for my exam!
I'm currently working as a foreign language teacher for the British Council in China though I've been a private tutor now for a nearly two years - in this time I've tutored a student in both his GCSEs and AS Levels, on average increasing his grades from C to A. I have also provided tuition for other children in younger years, giving them foundational bases in English and Mathematics. These jobs were done in person as well as online, via Skype. Aside from my direct tuition experience, I have two younger brothers who often ask for help with their school work. I think that if you can deal with- and teach effectively - your own siblings, you can take on any type of person! My time at Cambridge involved high intensity of work and as such, I am used to working quickly and efficiently, developing the best possible ways to achieve the task at hand.
My focus with my tuition is not the idea of teaching being a means to an end, but rather my aim is to actually interest my tutees in the process of learning. It is when students turn up and ask me questions that I struggle to answer that really excites me - I want to promote this intellectual curiosity and be far more than someone who my student has to see every week in order to get their A*.

I have been tutoring in French and German since I was in sixth form and spent six months in Vienna as a teaching assistant in 2014/15. I have taught a range of students between the ages of 11 and 18, both individually and in groups of up to 30. Therefore, I am well versed in planning and adapting lessons to focus on a student's strengths, weaknesses, requirements and interests.
Working as a translator in Paris has given me a breadth of French vocabulary that spans beyond the classroom and literature course. My students will thus get the chance to stand out from the crowd and impress with their diverse knowledge of colloquial and technical idiom.
Both of the languages I studied were learnt from scratch at secondary school, and the methods I devised and skills I trained throughout my schooling and time at Oxford are relevant and applicable to anyone wishing to improve their fluency and command of French and German. I am currently teaching myself Spanish, Danish and Swedish using the same techniques to build up my proficiency quickly as well as sustainably.

As a published academic writer with experience of private school and Oxbridge admissions processes, I am further confident tutoring to an extremely high level of tuition for a number of top-level schools and universities. Past students have gone on to study at Harrow, Eton, a number of London private schools and of course Oxford and Cambridge, among other universities.

I've been teaching with Spires for over a year, and I've had several long- and short-term clients over this period. All my students have made highly encouraging progress and have given me very positive feedback.
Off Spires, I have a wide range of teaching experience, both paid and volunteering, in a variety of languages and to both adults and children. I am a CELTA-certified teacher of English to students of other languages, and have outstanding academic credentials (A* at A-level in English Literature and Distinction in both French and Italian in my Preliminary Examinations at Oxford).
I teach English, French and Italian literature and language, to both native English speakers and foreign learners. I encourage my students to be scrupulously accurate when it comes to the finer points of language and creative and imaginative when it comes to studying literature. I am happy to conduct lessons in English, French or Italian.
I have a detailed knowledge of the UCAS system, and of Oxford and Cambridge application procedures in particular. I'm happy to offer help with personal statements, interview practice and preparation for the MLAT or Cambridge MML admissions test and advice about written work to be submitted.
Jess's last completed GCSE English Literature job with Aida: 1-2 hrs/week - (Father's opinion) I am looking for someone with such a love of English Literature that they can bring my daughter's potential GCSE level from an already decent level around the A grade to the best possible outcome. Her challenges in English Literature are centred around structuring essays - her analytic skills are usually very good. The impact of Covid-19 on schooling is unfortunately evident, and has affected her study of classics like Romeo & Juliet. We have a target timeframe for postponed Year 10 (UK) exams in September 2020, a public school entrance exam in October 2020 and GCSE mocks in January 2021. I hope that you will be able to help us achieve our ambition.
Jess's last review in GCSE English Literature from Aida: Romeo and Juliet: act 1 foreshadowing Close reading of an unseen passage This lesson was very helpful and interesting. I feel that I have learned a lot and had fun
I always build a completely unique scheme of work for each individual client and I pride myself on a creative and colourful teaching style which employs tasks and assignments to engage my students with complex ideas in a clear and accessible fashion. I have achieved excellent results with numerous clients receiving the esteemed 8 // 9 Grade in their English exams.
In the 6 years since I began tutoring my work has mostly centred on helping A-Level English students with both coursework and exam prep. I have worked with some of London's leading agencies including Bonas Macfarlane and Craig De Silva and have undertaken in depth work-experience at Grafton Primary School, London. I have also tutored students at some of the UK's leading independent schools including Harrow and Westminster.

Jennifer's last completed GCSE English Literature job with Kathryn: 1-2 hrs/week - William is in year 10 and because of the Covid situation is needing some input with his English Lit and Language. He is currently working or expecting to achieve a level 6 but is struggling without a teacher. He is available during the daytime.
I have been tutoring for over 20 years and was Head of Department and teacher of English in a leading online school for ten years. I have taught all aspects of English Language and Literature from providing assistance at undergraduate level, through A Levels and GCSEs, down to KS1. What I love about tutoring one-to-one is the building up of a personal relationship with a student and seeing them gain confidence and develop. Every student is different and learns in a different way, and I have a firm belief that, given the right teacher, everyone can do really well in English. I have also taught History to GCSE and KS3 and run Drama groups, and have participated in additional tutoring for LAMDA.
I have 2 TEFL certificates and have tutored for IELTS/TOEFL/C2 as well as having taught practical conversational English to mixed age/ability groups.
