I have over 4 years of experience in tutoring the sciences across a range of exam boards and levels, and am focused on ensuring each of my students understands how they will best reach their goals.
I am passionate about the subjects that I tutor, and am able to deliver them in innovative and engaging ways. My aim is to build up the confidence of my students in any given subject, and to help each individual to realise their potential.
Amongst other students and balancing degree work, I have recently home-schooled a student through her GCSE Biology, Chemistry and Physics exams. I taught the courses over 1 year instead of 2, and taking her from a predicted B in double award to A/B/B in separate sciences. Most tutoring was over Skype, so I'm familiar with how to keep attention over video and check students understanding without being in the room. I've been working with Spires for almost a year now and I'm really enjoying the platform.
I have successfully taught all subjects I am offering up to and including A Level. Experienced with AQA, OCR, Edexcel, and Eduqas. As a senior leader I have coached and mentored new and experienced teachers giving me a deep understanding of teaching methodologies. Skilled in differentiating learning, my student-centred approach ensures all students make progress. I am dedicated to developing the passion for lifelong learning in others.
I have years of experience both tutoring and mentoring young people, and am now working as a chemistry teacher, so I have access to useful resources, across KS3, 4 and 5. This means I can ensure the right support to help students truly understand the topic and get the best grade possible.
I am a highly experienced Chemistry teacher with over a decade of teaching experience in both the state and independent sectors, across the full Secondary age range. As a recent Head of Chemistry, you can be confident that I understand the rigours of the subject and have a wealth of resources to share with you. I am an expert teacher with a PGCE and a Masters in Science Education from the University of Cambridge. I also have a PhD and MSci in Chemistry from the University of Cambridge, so you can be certain that I know my subject! I taught for six years at one of the top independent schools in the country (top of The Times league table of co-ed schools GCSE results, for the last 4 years).
I pride myself on drawing the best out of my students. My years of teaching expertise mean that I can quickly ascertain what it is you do not understand and tailor my teaching methods to support your individual needs and learning style. I genuinely love teaching and will bring a level of enthusiasm to our lessons, which I am confident will inspire you and ensure you succeed in making rapid progress.
I am in prime position to maximise your learning with my in-depth understanding of the specifications and exam papers, coupled with teaching methods that improve attainment. I am also an Expert Examiner for two of the major exam boards. Having recently switched from teaching to become a professional tutor, helping my students to achieve the best possible results, using my considerable educational expertise, is my number one priority.
I have worked as a science tutor for the past two years and have loved every minute. During my PhD and subsequent time in academia I taught a range of levels and am expert in teaching Biology, Chemistry and Physics from GCSE level up to University level. At higher levels of education I can teach my specialist subjects including Biochemistry, Structural Biology and Molecular Biology.
With enthusiasm, careful planning and knowledge you can improve a students results and enjoyment of the subject, Tutoring is such a rewarding business to be involved in and what makes me a good tutor is that I teach out of love for the subject.
My subject knowledge abd passion to share it with the next generation makes me a good tutor. I believe in sharing what I have gained over 15years, with a sole aim of making my students successful in their exams.
I have been a Chemistry tutor with Spires for three years, during which time I have tutored A Level students, university applicants, undergraduate and postgraduate students. I mostly work with A- Level Chemistry students - last year my best student improved from a B grade (predicted) to an A* grade (actual) in 17 lessons.
Extensive subject knowledge and awareness of tricky concepts that cause problems. Easy to talk to. Can quickly devise strategies that can be used to help make rapid progress towards your goals. Can cover any exam board for GCSE chemistry and physics. Excellent knowledge of all UK Chemistry A level boards: OCR, AQA, OCR B, WJEC (Eduqas in England), Edexcel. Overseas boards, Cambridge International and Edexcel International chemistry A level are no problem. I aim to provide regular feedback and marking advice as part of the service.
I did my professional teaching course last year but had to give up teaching after qualifying for a great PhD opportunity. My favourite part of teaching was spending time with small groups and helping them realise they could do things they thought they couldn't.
I predominately taught GCSE and A-level classes In all three of the sciences. I also had to teach quite a lot on maths within the Physics A-level as well as helping out in GCSE maths classes. I really enjoyed teaching the sciences to people who were struggling as it would give rise to the "OH I get it now!" moment that most teachers crave.
Before teaching I studied at the University of Nottingham where I gained my masters in Biochemistry and Genetics. During this course I was lucky enough to study a large variety of topics as well as take part in research projects at the university which gave rise to further works. I thoroughly enjoyed my degree as well as my research which is why I am now studying for my PhD.
