I'm a postgraduate at The University of Oxford, and already hold a Congratulatory First in German (BA) with the best results of the 200 students in the Languages department, as well as the highest grades in Arts subjects at my college.
I also have over four years of tutoring experience, from primary through to GCSE, A Level, and undergraduate. It's a consistent delight to celebrate tutees' successes - be it getting to grips with a thorny bit of grammar, having a 'eureka!' moment with a tricky piece of literature, or passing exams with flying colours.
There can be no one-size-fits-all formula when it comes to a tutoring session. Every tutee has different likes and dislikes, strengths and weaknesses, and will progress at an individual pace. I can help with anything from oral presentations and spoken fluency, to essays, literature, and grammar (having personally tried all the tips and tricks!).
I have experience of helping people with languages of a variety of ages and standards for both oral and written examinations. Previous students of mine have been very pleased with their results and guidance received which is always tailored to your specific needs. I have lived and worked in Austria to hone my spoken German and spent a year studying in Russia so have very high levels of fluency and knowledge of grammar for both. I can offer more in depth instruction in German and Russian literature or at a more basic introductory level. I am very diligent and reliable.
I teach learners of all abilities and ages, using my experience in teaching secondary (Years 7-11), as well as tertiary (Years 12 and 13) students and can prepare learners for GCSE, IGCSE, A Level and IBDP German ab initio, and German B (SL or HL) exams. I have also taught professionals, adults and in primaries, as well as raised our own children bilingually.
The 2018/2019 examination season was yet another very successful year for my tutees. I do not only keep my 100% pass rate; all my A Level tutees outperformed their predicted grades (based on their 'Mocks') by two grades and my GCSE/IGCSE tutees improved their predicted grades by at least three grades/digits. Many of them outperformed their target grades (where possible) and one of them improved by five grades/digits compared to her predicted '4' ('Mocks'). Also, my Goethe Zertifikat tutees passed with at least „gut".
I have taught everything from music theory to English as far afield as New York and Madagascar, in classrooms, 1-to-1 and online. I have a Congratulatory First in Modern Languages from Oxford and have been tutoring a range of subjects for the last 9 years. I also have experience of living, working and studying in both France and Germany. Although my style of teaching is friendly and laid-back, I take immense pleasure from academic achievement and from inspiring others to achieve their academic goals.
I have been teaching languages for more than 15 years long and always improving and getting new ways and methods to teach.
I have been tutoring in French and German since I was in sixth form and spent six months in Vienna as a teaching assistant in 2014/15. I have taught a range of students between the ages of 11 and 18, both individually and in groups of up to 30. Therefore, I am well versed in planning and adapting lessons to focus on a student's strengths, weaknesses, requirements and interests.
Working as a translator in Paris has given me a breadth of French vocabulary that spans beyond the classroom and literature course. My students will thus get the chance to stand out from the crowd and impress with their diverse knowledge of colloquial and technical idiom.
Both of the languages I studied were learnt from scratch at secondary school, and the methods I devised and skills I trained throughout my schooling and time at Oxford are relevant and applicable to anyone wishing to improve their fluency and command of French and German. I am currently teaching myself Spanish, Danish and Swedish using the same techniques to build up my proficiency quickly as well as sustainably.
Already during my undergraduate degree in politics in Germany I taught first-year students how to write academic papers and how to conduct research. Thus I know how to prepare a tutoring lesson and how to explain things in an understandable way. Additionally, I have been an online tutor in German, focusing on the preparation of speaking exams for GCSE. As a PhD student at the University of St Andrews, Scotland I will also be involved in teaching undergraduate students in International Relations and Security Studies. Therefore I am a very experienced tutor who enjoys teaching.
Furthermore, I am a native speaker in German. I did my A-Levels and my undergraduate degree in Germany. Therefore I can help you with all the difficulties in learning this language.
I have over 4 years of experience as a tutor. I tutored throughout my time as an undergraduate at the University of Oxford both online and in person. Every pupil has different requirements, and I always tailor my lessons and approach accordingly in order to help them develop academically, and hopefully enjoy this process.
During my time as a tutor I have taught a range of subjects to pupils at different levels, including English, History, Maths, German, Latin and Greek. I have had great success helping pupils prepare for their A Levels, GCSEs, Common Entrance and 11+ exams. In terms of helping prepare pupils for admissions exams, I have a broad knowledge of different schools across London and outside of it, and what each one requires of its students.
I graduated from the University of Oxford with a BA in History and German. I specialised in Modern European History, with a particular focus on Germany. I will begin studying for an MPhil in Modern European History in October 2019 at the University of Cambridge.
Schools I have tutored pupils for admissions include:
St Paul's Boys School (which I attended)
St Paul's Girls School
I have been a professional tutor since 2006.
Across all of the different subjects I teach, I always notice the same thing: the main difficulty that learners encounter is getting overwhelmed by what they're trying to learn. It could be that there seems to be simply too much material to cover; it could be that the concepts seem too difficult; it could be that the whole thing causes anxiety for some completely different reason which is apparently unrelated to the 'academic' side of things.
I help remove anxiety, regardless of what form it might take, in whatever way seems like it will help each individual most. Before long, it becomes possible to see the task in hand with different eyes – indeed, more importantly, at this point most of my students come to see their own abilities entirely differently. They may have come to me with a fixed idea of what they are 'bad' at, but I help them to realise that they have skills they hardly suspected.
My love for foreign languages started when I was just a child. Therefore I decided to dedicate all my academic career to the study of languages. I attended a language high school where I studied English, French and German. I received full marks in each language included Italian.
After completing my high school, I started providing English and Italian tuition.
I completed my BA in Language Mediation specializing in English and German, where I also took exams such as Italian grammar and linguistics, Applied linguistics and the history of the Italian language.
After three years of studies, I got accepted at UCL with an unconditional offer and I pursued my Master of Arts in Translation and Linguistics.
I have been tutoring young students as well as adult learners and all my lessons are tailored in order to suit the student’s needs.
