I have tutored over 50 hours online. I have extensive experience tutoring undergraduates in essay-writing, both for exams and assignments, including dissertations. Essay subjects I have experience in include Social Policy, Public Health, Political Science, International Relations, and Nutrition. I also have experience tutoring students interested in applying to Medicine, preparing for interviews and entrance exams. Additionally, I have taught small groups of medical students on physiology, and tutored A-level biology. Last summer, I worked as an English teacher at an English language immersion camp for European students in Croatia.
I am an enthusiastic and energetic individual who is both self-motivated and proactive. An excellent communicator at all levels internal & external, can be relied on to work well both as part of a team and individually. Thrives on a challenge and have delivered my best results when faced with pressing targets.
I hold a Bachelors degree from queen Margaret University in pharmacology, a MSc in Cancer Therapeutics from Barts and the London School of Medicine and I currently finishing my PhD from Barts Cancer Institute. I have a vast experience of teaching at all levels and currently teach two days a week.
I am a biomedical research scientist with over 10 years experience of teaching in universities and over 5 years experience of online tutoring. I have delivered lectures and tutorials on a wide range of biomedical topics at undergraduate and postgraduate level in the UK and Canada. I have supervised BSc project students and proofread numerous PhD and MSc theses, as well as acting as an examiner in mock PhD vivas. I have helped many biomedical undergraduate and PhD students to improve their writing and critical analysis and gain top marks. Recently, I helped a biochemistry student at the University of Glasgow with learning difficulties.
I have also tutored many GCSE students in Science and Maths with the main examboards being AQA and Edexcel.
I am a friendly and patient tutor. I benefitted from one-on-one tutoring at Oxford University and feel that this personalised approach can enhance learning for every student. I am ready to work with students to help them achieve their specific educational goals.
I tutored many students during my PhD, from school leavers wanting lab experience to tutoring fellow PhD candidates in sterile tissue culture techniques. The longest tutoring project I have undertaken was supervising a third year medical student for his intercalated BSc in Physiology. He won the prize for top project in his year (mainly due to his hard work and dedication) and was a joy to teach and really fuelled my interest in nurturing younger minds. More recently I tutored a young man who wanted to take his GCSE a year early; his spoken French was excellent but the writing was letting him down. I identified his weaknesses and we worked on those to raise his grade to an 8 overall.

Over the past three years I have carried out 200+ hours of tuition covering GCSE Maths/Science, A-level Science, BMAT, UCAT, personal statements, mock interviews (panel, MMI and Oxbridge) and supercurricular medicine. Through this I have developed effective teaching strategies and resources for the students. Many of my students have gone on to achieve Oxbridge offers and all have achieved at least one medical school offer. My philosophy is to work on the students weaker subjects and skills, and make sure they are fully prepared for all question types.
A level Biology: I have taught around 200 hours and covered the OCR, AQA and Edexcel exam boards.
A level Chemistry: I have taught around 60 hours and covered the OCR, AQA and Edexcel exam boards.
GCSE Science: I have taught around 170 hours and covered the OCR (A and B), AQA and Edexcel exam boards.
GCSE Maths: I have taught around 130 hours and covered predominantly the Edexcel exam board.
Adult numeracy aptitude tests: I have helped young adults to succeeded in numeracy and numerical reasoning tests for graduate scheme applications.
GAMSAT: I have helped both science and non-science graduates to prepare for this tough exam. I can help with Section 1, 2 and 3.
Undergraduate Biology / Biomedical Sciences: I have mentored students in the year below struggling with BSc-level topics.
UCAS and Interviews: I have helped several students with their personal statements and interview preparation.
Overall, I have 3 years experience tutoring
I have more than 600 hours of private teaching experience, including 35+ hours of online tutoring experience. I have helped more than 250 learners at various levels: secondary school, undergraduate and postgraduate.
Additionally, I have formal training in instructional methods having completed a pedagogical degree. I apply educational principles to make the learning experience enjoyable, effective, and useful.
My teaching philosophy is that everyone can learn, grow, and improve if they are guided in the right direction. Therefore, I will adapt my approach and find the one that works best for you.
At the same time, some of the techniques I have found to be effective are, linking the teaching material to real work experiences, regular feedback, and encouraging deep engagement with the material.
I have been tutoring for 2 years. In that time, I have particularly enjoyed tutoring students through their dissertations, especially helping them with their language and writing style.
