As my literary love W.B. Yeats said: 'Education is not the filling of a pail, but the lighting of a fire'. I want to prove this in my teaching.

As alluded to earlier, I have a great passion for W.B. Yeats (and I wasn't lying...) I have spent many months at the British Library exploring his works, and have taken my interest to the Yeats International Summer School in Sligo, a school to which I hope to return in 2017. On a related note, this interest inspired me to take up the English Faculty's offer of classes in Modern Irish, a language as bizarre as it is wonderful!
After books and reading, music is my favourite thing: I play the cello (in a couple of university orchestras, and also for fun). I spend much time listening to my musical loves, artists ranging from Led Zeppelin to Nina Simone; from Amy Winehouse to Frank Ocean. Weirdly, it was actually through Led Zeppelin that I discovered Yeats...
Being outside is a great thing, I love a good walk - while at school, I completed my Gold DofE, and really enjoyed it. Unfortunately, it's not everyday you can go trekking off into the wild with a massive bag on your back, so I do a lot of swimming to stay healthy.
My experience in teaching includes seven years at the Clapham Common Kumon Centre, tutoring in Maths and English; a Saturday Maths scheme for year five pupils; and volunteering for Rainbows (5-7 year-old Girl Guides). I have also acted as a mentor in an innovative literacy programme directed at 7-9 year-olds struggling to read (Rhythm for Reading), and as a leader for year eight students in my capacity as an Alleyn's lower school prefect.
