About Me

I love the outdoors and being active. I always take up an opportunity to try something new. I love playing in team sports as well as running, swimming and cycling. In my free time I enjoy exploring new places and going for long walks. I have always had an interest in art and often spend time painting.

I believe learning is something that never stops, so I always look for the next opportunity to develop my own studying further. I have recently completed a Masters in Education, and have also gained a qualification as a Mental Health First Aider.

I grew up in the beautiful city of Oxford, and have since worked across the midlands and I have recently relocated to Rome to experience the culture and to grow my teaching practice even further.

Tutor Experience

I have taught English Literature and Language in schools, tuition centres and on a 1-1 basis over the last 7 years. I have been Head of Key Stage 3 and have excellent understanding of how to make progress from one term to the next and how to implement engaging and well-structured lessons.

I particularly enjoy writing with purpose, whether that is creatively within a specific genre, or to convince and persuade. I love supporting students with getting to grips with texts and in understanding how meaning is shaped and constructed whilst being able to communicate their ideas in a clear and coherent manner.

I believe that learning should be unique to each and every student and that it is a tutor's role to motivate learners towards their successes. I embed an enquiry based approach which focuses students on developing specific skills which can be assessed at the end of each session. I use the approach of 'I Do, We Do, You Do' which ensures that tasks are scaffolded and supported for each individual learner.

Topic Expertise

I have primarily taught AQA English Literature and Language at GCSE, as well as at A Level for English Literature. My expertise runs across Language Paper 1 and Language Paper 2, as well a variety of texts for both of the Literature papers (Macbeth, Romeo and Juliet, An Inspector Calls, Love and Relationship Poetry, Power and Conflict Poetry, Dr. Jekyll and Mr Hyde). I have a strong understanding of mark schemes and can easily apply my knowledge and skills to other texts that may be studied at both GCSE and A Level. At A Level I have taught Blake's Poetry, Othello, Keats, Political Protest, The Handmaid's Tale, The Kite Runner, and I have led on developing coursework.

I have also taught IB, iGCSE and Edexcel and have found that my teaching approaches are well suited to these exam boards.

I believe that having a strong understanding of genre is important to grasping the true meaning of texts that are studied. Topics which I have particularly enjoyed teaching and creating schemes for include; dystopian fiction, gothic writing and tragedy. Having a holistic understanding of genre allows students to dive deeper into writers' intentions and through doing so, they will be able to communicate ideas whilst developing detailed analysis and evaluation of texts.
