I'm a friendly and enthusiastic History and Visual Culture PhD student with an infectious love for the subject.
I tutor in History up to undergraduate level.
I like to work on essay-writing skills, focusing closely on argument and structure, in order to help students produce confident and consistently strong work.

First of all, I'm a History geek. I'm in my second year of a History and Visual Culture PhD, specialising in Soviet photography. As a result, I'm currently learning Russian (and I can also read French).
When I'm not debating about Russian history, I'll probably have my head in a book, be on the dance floor, or be travelling the world. I'm an all-around art fiend, with a love of music, literature, art and cinema: museums, galleries and bookshops are where I'm most at home. I was also awarded a Half Blue in Dancesport for competing on the Oxford A-side, and currently compete for the Durham University Dancesport team.
Writing is one of my greatest loves, so when I get the chance to write something that isn't an essay, I'll be picking up the pen in my spare time. At university I wrote for student rags and a cinema society: after graduating, I worked as a staff writer for a magazine. Though I'm submersed in academia, the written word will always be a creative outlet for me.
Asides from a sincere passion for my subject, I've proved myself as a tutor and a mentor. With both academic and pastoral teaching experience, I know I can set students at ease, inspire, and develop a successful and enriching working relationship.
At Oxford, I was involved with subject specific tutoring alongside leading workshops on interview technique, application advice and entrance examination preparations. In a wider role as an access campaigner, I also worked with pupils of all ages, giving tours and presentations to school groups, taking part in Q&As and advising students one-on-one with regards to university applications and subject prospects.
