I have spent over a decade teaching Psychology in some of the UK's leading schools, and it is a subject I am genuinely passionate about. I currently lead the Psychology department at Sevenoaks School, consistently ranked among the top IB schools in the UK and globally, where I teach across both Standard and Higher Level. I also work as an IB examiner, which gives me a particularly clear understanding of what assessors are looking for and how students can best demonstrate their knowledge under exam conditions.
My background in Psychology goes back to my own A Level studies, where I achieved an A*, before going on to complete a BSc in Psychology at the University of East Anglia and my PGCE at UCL's Institute of Education. I have also been nominated for Pearson's Teacher of the Year in recognition of my work with students.
Outside of school, I have always tutored alongside my teaching because I love the one to one dynamic. It allows for the kind of tailored, focused support that is difficult to replicate in a classroom, and I find it incredibly rewarding to see students grow in confidence and achieve results they did not think were possible. I work with a wide range of learners, from those who are struggling to find their feet with the subject, to high ability students pushing for top grades and Oxbridge applications.
When I am not teaching or tutoring, I have a keen interest in mindfulness and wellbeing, which I have also brought into my professional work through whole school programmes and research presented at a Harvard Flourishing Networking Event.
I have taught Psychology (A Level and IB) for over a decade, currently as Head of Psychology at Sevenoaks School, one of the UK's top ranked IB schools. Previously I led the department at Tonbridge Grammar School, named IB School of the Year, where I grew the cohort from 40 to 80 students and drove significant improvements in outcomes. I also have experience teaching Theory of Knowledge and have designed and delivered a Critical Thinking course for the Sevenoaks Summer Programme.
As an active examiner, I bring a precise understanding of assessment criteria and mark schemes directly into my teaching. I have developed bespoke internal textbooks, Extended Essay supervisor guides, and revision resources tailored to the demands of the IB course.
In tutoring, I work with students across IB Psychology and AQA A Level Psychology, from those who need foundational support to high ability students targeting Level 7s and Oxbridge applications. I also support students with personal statements and university admissions. My students are based across the UK and internationally, and all sessions are delivered online.
My approach is structured but responsive. I focus on building genuine understanding rather than surface level recall, using targeted exam technique, memory retention strategies, and personalised resources. I place a high value on student confidence and independence, so that by the end of our work together, students are not reliant on me but equipped to perform on their own.
My core areas of expertise are IB Psychology at both Standard and Higher Level, and AQA A Level Psychology. As an active IB examiner, I have examined across all IB Psychology papers and have working knowledge of the Extended Essay and Internal Assessment, meaning I can offer informed guidance on both, within the boundaries that IB guidelines permit.
For IB and AQA A Level Psychology, I can cover all core and optional themes, and can support students across all papers and types of exam skills.
More broadly, I am able to provide guidance across a variety of other Psychology syllabuses and specifications due to the breadth of my teaching and examining experience. Whatever the syllabus, I can help with content understanding, exam technique, essay and short answer structure, memory retention strategies, and revision planning — adapting my approach to wherever a student most needs support.
"Charlotte is without doubt one of the best teachers I have ever had. Not only is she able to explain the content really clearly, and in a way that is super understandable, her training as an examiner really helps you see how to get the marks and write high scoring essays. I could not recommend her enough!"
"I just wanted to let you know I got my psychology result back, and I got an A* , thank you so much for all your help!!"
"As I wrap up these two years, I just wanted to say a huge thank you for being such a big part of my journey. Whether it was pushing me to think more deeply, helping me make sense of tricky topics, or just being there for a chat when I needed it, you’ve made a lasting impact I’ll always be grateful for. Looking back, I’ve grown so much—not just as a student but as a person—and a lot of that is because of the way you taught, guided, and supported me. Thank you for all your patience, feedback, and everything in between."
