About Me
Head of Chemistry department in my local school with responsibility for the teaching and learning of Chemistry. Interests include teaching and carrying out research work that is linked to Chemistry education. I enjoy spending time outdoors growing crops for food and taking care of the environment.
Tutor Experience
More than 10 years experience of in person tutoring and online tutoring of students studying Chemistry at GCSE level and A-level. I have tutored ten students continuously for more than ten years. All students I have studied Chemistry from GCSE and continued onto A-level. After completing their A - levels the students have gone on to study courses related to Chemistry at University.
My approach to teaching has mainly focussed on the needs of the learners. Most of the tutorial sessions were an hour long. Some of the tutorials were in person and some were online.
At first, I will assess the student's abilities during the first lesson so I can decide how I will approach the teaching process. I have worked with all my students to plan an approach that can meet the needs of their learning. During tutorials with the students, I use my own resources to deliver the learning that is needed. During the tutorial, I will explain the key concepts that the student will need to learn and then provide some exam-style questions to discuss. I will model how the question needs to be answered before giving the students some questions to attempt themselves. I would also give the students some extra resources for them to use to improve their understanding of concepts discussed during the tutorials.
