Online English Literature Tutor Riannon

I have worked in English education for 12+ years across UK and international settings, as a teacher, private tutor, examiner, KS4 Coordinator and Head of Department. Most recently, I spent five years teaching at an international school in the Netherlands, with responsibilities spanning teaching, curriculum design, student intervention, teacher development and departmental leadership.

My experience spans GCSE, IGCSE, A Level and the International Baccalaureate, working with students across the attainment range from those seeking crucial pass grades to highly academic students aiming for the highest levels.

My recent private students have achieved outcomes including Grade 4 → Grade 6 in both English Language and Literature; Grade 4 → Grade 6 in a GCSE Language resit; two Grade 4s → two Grade 7s; and 152/160 in English Literature for a very strong Grade 9.

My tutoring is diagnostic and highly individualised. I look closely at how a student currently reads, thinks and writes, identify their strengths and the areas limiting their progress, and build a tailored programme of study from there.

I don’t believe in giving every student the same formula. Some need greater technical control; some need confidence and structure; some have excellent ideas but struggle to translate them into effective responses; others have learned rigid techniques that actually limit their progress.

My role is to work out what this particular student needs next - and build the route forward from there.

I am a fully qualified English teacher (PGCE with QTS), a 9+ year AQA GCSE English Literature examiner across both Paper 1 and Paper 2, and currently examine English Language at A Level for Cambridge International. I also hold a TEFL qualification at Distinction.

GCSE & IGCSE Literature: My deepest specialist expertise is AQA. I support close analysis, conceptual argument, writers’ methods, essay structure, poetry, unseen texts and exam technique. I also support Pearson Edexcel, Cambridge International (CAIE), OCR and Eduqas/WJEC.

GCSE & IGCSE Language: I have 12+ years’ experience teaching reading analysis, comparison, evaluation, creative and transactional writing, technical accuracy and exam strategy. I support AQA, Pearson Edexcel, CAIE, OCR and Eduqas/WJEC.

A Level Literature: I have taught A Level Literature and support the major UK specifications, including AQA, Pearson Edexcel, OCR and Eduqas/WJEC. My particular expertise lies in close textual analysis, conceptual argument, comparison, critical interpretations, coursework/NEA and developing the independent critical voice required at KS5.

IBDP Literature (HL/SL): I have five years’ experience teaching both HL and SL, including Paper 1, Paper 2, the Individual Oral and HL Essay where applicable.

IBDP Language & Literature (HL/SL): I have five years’ experience teaching HL and also tutor SL. I support literary and non-literary analysis across Paper 1, Paper 2, the Individual Oral and HL Essay where applicable.

Across KS5, I specialise particularly in developing conceptual focus, interpretive sophistication and critical independence.
