About Me

I am a highly experienced Teacher of English and World Literature, with ten years' experience of teaching and curriculum design for the GCSE. I am British and earned my PGCE with Qualified Teacher Status in the UK, at a Russel Group university. Since then, I have lived in England, the USA, Mexico, and the Netherlands.

I love to travel and to gain insight into different cultures around the world - I feel that my extensive travels have embued my perspective with a richness which is of benefit to my students. I am highly engaged with the Arts and remain immersed in the Mythopoetic tradition; I am engaged with meaning-making throughout life, not just in my work. I have a very developed interest in Psychology. I am also a very creative person and have a passion for Ceramics/Pottery making. Finally, I enjoy a lot of different forms of movement such as dance, Yoga, Pilates, cycling, swimming, and hiking. It's important to me to maintain a balanced perspective and experience of the world so that I can offer the most holistic, cross-curricular, and meaningful approach possible.

I take a constructive and conceptual approach, so I am able to quickly get an idea of where you already are and how best to accelerate your progress from there. It is common for my tutees to progress up to 2+ grades above their initial target, and all of my tutees remark that they enjoy the process along the way! I firmly believe that maintaining a sense of humour and enjoying the work is just as important as the progress you make.

Tutor Experience

My last role was for five years in an International School in the Netherlands, where I was Coordinator of KS4 and Head of Department. I have taught many curricula - the UK KS3, the GCSE, A Level, the IBDP (English Literature HL/SL and English Language and Literature HL), Cambridge International, TEFL, and the Common Core. This means that if English is not your first language, then I am uniquely positioned to support you. I have spent my career synthesising the best aspects of each program taught into an elegant and effective approach to teaching that ensures you will make progress and gain much clarity and insight. I specialise in the tutoring of GCSE and the teaching of Literature.

As a Teacher, Deputy, Coordinator, Department Lead, Examiner, and Tutor, I have helped thousands of students to realise their potential and uncover what English has to offer them. Whether you are working towards a Grade 4, looking for someone to help with crossing that Grade 4/5 borderline, move from a secure Grade 5 to a 6 or higher, or are comfortably in the 7/8 range with your eyes on the Grade 9 - I can help you succeed. I have also trained teachers and implemented curriculums to help not only my own students, but entire year groups succeed. My approach blends rigour with creativity, ensuring students not only achieve excellent results but also grow in confidence, skill, and awareness. I am patient, friendly, compassionate, and experienced - I can work out how to best support you and make sure you make the progress you want.

Topic Expertise

GCSE ENGLISH LITERATURE (AQA)
As an eight-year Examiner of both Paper 1 and Paper 2, I have an extremely nuanced understanding of the mark schemes, assessment criteria, and the subtle distinctions that move students into the next grade. My teaching of this subject therefore bridges conceptual exploration with rigorous exam preparation, ensuring students develop both interpretive precision and analytical confidence.

GCSE ENGLISH LANGUAGE (AQA)
I have taught this specification in British and International contexts for over 10 years. I regularly facilitate workshops and trainings for both staff and students on how to meet the requirements for each individual question and mark scheme. With Language, I can help you to develop your creative agency whilst also ensuring your technical precision increases.

IBDP English Literature (HL or SL)
With five years' experience of teaching both IBDP English specifications, my approach combines conceptual clarity with imaginative engagement. I spend time orienting students to each assesment, whilst also developing their confidence, voice, and interpretive independence - not simply teaching you what to write, but how to think as a reader and writer.

IBDP English Language and Literature (HL)
Given the broad and diverse demands of this specification, I can help you gain a clear sense of how to respond to each assessment. I offer tailored 1:1 support designed to meet you where you are both psychologically and academically. I ensure that you gain increased access to complex texts and are increasingly confident in your ability to articulate nunanced interpretations,
