Outstanding,enthusiastic,caring science, biology, SEND tutor
I am a qualified teacher with over 20 years of experience in education and a former SENCO. I specialise in supporting students who need a calm, supportive learning environment, particularly neurodiverse learners including those with autism, dyslexia and ADHD.
I believe learning should feel safe and encouraging, allowing students to ask questions, make mistakes and gradually develop independence. As someone who is autistic and dyslexic myself, I bring both professional expertise and lived experience to my tutoring. I understand the challenges many students face and work with their strengths to help them succeed.
My main goal is for every child to succeed in a way that supports them achieving their best possible outcomes.
As a SENDCo in a large secondary and a two form entry junior school I have a wide range of educational experiences that enable me to plan, deliver and review enjoyable, pupil targeted, lessons. I have experience of working with children with all types of difficulties both diagnosed or showing traits. This will allow me to support your child in the best way possible for them.
I have worked mainly with the AQA combined science and biology specifications but am easily able to adapt to any syllabus have designed and delivered schemes of work for both PE and science.
During my time in education I have achieved great results with my pupils, on average my pupils achieve a grade higher in science than they do in English and maths. I feel this is mainly due to the relationship and understanding I develop with my students.
Exam anxiety is a big issue for students but my sessions aim to build confidence and technique so pupils not only think they can but KNOW they can.
I have been teaching for 24 years in various different settings as well as being a special educational needs coordinator. I have, for the last 10 years been teaching up to GCSE level science following the AQA syllabus.
I have developed many different techniques to ensure the best progress for all of my students. The most important being developing a relationship of trust with my students; It is important for students to feel confident to make mistakes in order to learn properly. I see it as my job to build this trust by really listening to the needs of each individual and tailoring my lessons to help them achieve the very best they are capable of.
Whilst I have been teaching the AQA syllabus, I am adept at adapting to any syllabus that I would be required to teach. I am particularly strong on any subject where there is a crossover between PE and science - for instance the structure of the heart, the circulatory and respiratory system and nutrition.
