Good Day, I'm Chima, a dedicated and patient Economics and Maths tutor with a passion for making complex concepts clear and accessible. I hold a PhD in Agricultural and Environmental Economics from the University of Kent, alongside two other Master's degrees in Economics and Finance. This strong academic foundation means I don't just teach the syllabus; I provide a deeper, contextual understanding that helps students excel.
My teaching philosophy is centred on building understanding - as I believe with understanding you can build on complexity, and offer a foundation of confidence for exploring creativity. I believe every student has the potential to succeed, and my role is to identify their unique learning style and provide the structured support they need to unlock it. Whether we are tackling foundational maths or advanced economic theory, I focus on creating a supportive and engaging environment where questions are encouraged and ideas are challenged.
With years of experience tutoring one-on-one from primary school to postgraduate level, and as a former Graduate Teaching Assistant at the University of Kent, I am adept at tailoring my approach to individual needs. I am passionate about helping students learn but also develop an appreciation for the topics/subjects they learn in a language they understand.
My tutoring experience is extensive and varied, allowing me to adapt to students at various academic levels:
- One-to-One Private Tutor (Global): I have provided personalised online tutoring in Economics (from high school to postgraduate level) and Mathematics (from primary school to A-Level). This includes focused exam preparation (GCSE, A-Levels, University entrance exams), revision techniques, and ongoing academic skill development. My remote teaching is enhanced by interactive tools like digital whiteboards and tailored practice materials.
- Graduate Teaching Assistant, University of Kent: In this formal university role, I taught and supported undergraduate students in modules including Data Analysis and Professional Economics. I was responsible for planning teaching materials, leading sessions to deepen understanding of economic theory, and marking assignments and exams. This experience gave me a clear insight into what universities expect from their students.
- Teaching Cover Supervisor (Secondary Schools): Working in secondary schools across South Kent, I gained hands-on experience in managing classroom learning across multiple subjects. This role honed my ability to manage diverse classrooms, and maintain a productive learning environment according to pre-set lesson plans.
My background ensures that I can guide students through their immediate academic challenges while also preparing them for future success. I am skilled at breaking down complicated problems into manageable steps, with the aim of building a student's knowledge base with each session.
My expertise covers a wide range of Economics and Mathematics subjects, from foundational levels to advanced university courses. I am comfortable tailoring lessons to a number of major exam boards and university curricula.
