About Me

Lucy has a first class BA in Musicology from St Hugh’s College, University of Oxford, having focused particularly on ethnomusicology, musico-political studies and pedagogical theory. Prior to Oxford, Lucy was classically trained at Chetham’s School of Music where she majored in piano and vocal studies and gained her LRSM performance qualification. Alongside her practical music studies, she achieved 9 GCSEs all A*-A and 3 As at A-level in music, German and English literature. During her time at university she focused particularly on developing her teaching skills and took part in a practice and pedagogy module in which she was trained to formally teach in a primary school setting. She had particular success in this module and was awarded an Academic Scholarship by the university. Alongside her studies, she worked for the Isis Magazine as a member of the investigate journalism team and had several pieces of writing published. Whilst her primary skills and interests are in academia, she is also a skilled performer; she was awarded awarded the Isis Ensemble Scholarship, the RAM Performance Scholarship and the St Hugh's Organ Scholarship. During her undergraduate degree her interest turned towards the social sciences. In 2024, she completed an MSc in Gender and Human Rights Studies at the London School of Economics and Political Science, receiving a distinction, an award for the best overall performance in her department and an award for the best critical intervention in a dissertation. Lucy is now publishing her own research in several social science journals and is working with SAGE for their upcoming handbook.

Testimonials

Siobhan (parent) (11+ and 13+ tuition): Lucy is an incredible tutor and mentor and I’ll be forever grateful that she came into our lives. Her fast-paced, flexible, firm and down-to-earth style really worked for us. We started working with her about 3 years ago for 11 plus exams, and she got both my boys into City of London School for boys. More than that they absolutely loved learning with her, she built their knowledge and their confidence. We also did a few hours of interview prep and she is an incredible coach, really helping them see things they’ve done as achievements and how to be engaging and interesting in conversations. Would highly recommend Lucy and I know we’ll be returning to her many times over the next few years.

Alex (parent) (13+ English Tuition Tonbridge): Lucy provided intensive preparation for our son's 13+ English exam at a very selective school after relocation meant time was limited. She quickly understood the brief, identified ways to stretch and develop our son and was focused, positive and outcome-focused. She provided clear feedback after each session which summarised work covered, his progress and next steps/homework. She developed excellent rapport with him and he really enjoyed the sessions - not only could he see how much he was learning, he also enjoyed the process. He particularly enjoyed the additional tasks given to learn vocabulary and enjoyed extending his knowledge and using them across his other subjects (and whenever possible!) at school. This was noted by his school teacher who praised his interesting use of language. Ultimately, our son got into his first-choice school and Lucy was instrumental in achieving this outcome. We couldn't have asked for a better English Tutor. We'd have no hesitation in recommemding her.
