About Me

I am a friendly, hard-working and skilled communicator with a bank of tutoring skills and eight years experience tutoring mathematics. I always tailor my support for each individual student, and emphasise strengthening the principles of reasoning which produce mathematical excellence. I also make sure to dedicate time to developing my students’ confidence in their ability to tackle challenging problems.

I recently graduated from a master's in Mathematics and Philosophy and the University of Oxford. My college, Worcester, is amongst the most competitive in the University for Mathematics and joint schools, and I averaged a first in my mathematics finals every year. Before attending Oxford, I achieved A* results in Mathematics, Further Mathematics, French and Classical Greek A-levels, as well as twelve A* results at GCSE.

Tutor Experience

I have taught the MAT, and more broadly supported Oxford maths and joint schools applications from course and college all the way through to interview, since 2020. I scored highly on the MAT (86/100) and full marks in both mathematics interviews, and the system I used to prepare is the basis of the preparation I facilitate for my students. I have over 300 hours of admissions teaching experience with 16 students, many of whom have gone on to be shortlisted for interview and receive offers. This includes students applying for Computer Science and joint schools. I have also taught several students for the TMUA.

I have also taught GCSE, IB, A-level and International A-level Mathematics to a handful of long-term students, all of whom achieved the targeted grades agreed in their study plan. In many cases I would push students well beyond the exam syllabi where helpful, drawing on my experience of participating in the UKMT Junior Mentoring Scheme.

At school I ran a maths clinic supporting my peers with their A-level and GCSE Mathematics. This experience was in fact the foundation of my later success as a tutor, as it honed my ability to explain mathematics just as well as I understood it. I saw dozens of students, some just once and others repeatedly, all with differing ways of thinking, ways of learning, and levels of mathematical understanding (and indeed levels of interest in maths!).
