About Me

I was born and continue to reside in Barnsley, South Yorkshire. I am married and have two grown-up children, both of whom are currently pursuing their studies at university. My daughter is reading Geography at the University of Cambridge, while my son is studying Fine Art at Kingston University. My husband is also a teacher, with over 30 years of experience teaching Geography and Geology.

Outside of my professional life, I have a wide range of interests. I enjoy travelling and exploring new places both in the UK and abroad. I am an enthusiastic supporter of my local football team and take pleasure in walking and gardening. A keen reader, I enjoy both fiction and non-fiction, and I also regularly attend the cinema and theatre.

I am actively involved in my local community. I volunteer at my local Parkrun and have served as a governor at a local primary school for nearly 15 years, a role I value deeply for its contribution to educational standards and community engagement.

Tutor Experience

I have 32 years of teaching experience in mainstream education, beginning as a History teacher in an 11–16 school and, for the past 29 years, working at a high-performing selective grammar school in West Yorkshire. My specialism lies in GCSE and A Level History, and I have extensive experience teaching the subject across Key Stages 3, 4, and 5. I have also taught Key Stage 3 and 4 Geography, including several GCSE groups, and have recently taught A Level Politics.

Alongside teaching, I have 27 years of examining experience with AQA and currently serve as an Assistant Principal Examiner for GCSE History. I have also examined for OCR (GCSE), AQA (A Level), and Pearson Edexcel (A Level History). I’ve moderated GCSE coursework and am expanding into NEA moderation and work with Cambridge International.

I offer tuition for all GCSE and A Level History specifications, GCSE Geography (AQA), and A Level Politics (AQA), as well as Key Stage 3 tuition in English, History, and Geography.

Building strong relationships with students is at the heart of my teaching. I bring the same commitment and care to tutoring as I have throughout my career, aiming to create a supportive and motivating environment. My classroom experience has equipped me with effective strategies for delivering engaging lessons and developing students’ exam skills. I focus not only on deepening subject knowledge but also on helping students understand how to apply it under exam conditions.

Highly familiar with the requirements of all major UK exam boards, I believe that structured feedback and regular assessment are vital for progress. Above all, I strive to inspire students with a genuine enthusiasm for their subjects and a love of learning.
