I love reading, writing, learning languages and being outdoors. You're as likely to find me reading a political text as running the trails through the forest. I have always enjoyed working with young people whether academically or pastroally and I've worked in many different contexts; from a tennis coach in New Zealand to a secondary school teacher in Peru to a language translator in El Salvador. Travel has been away of satisfying the curiosity I have for the world around me and I've always found working in new contexts a fascinating challenge.
I love the process of learning, and having developed a love for Spanish through films, history and literature. I worked hard to achieve a level of fluency and this gave me the key to unlock the whole continent of South America. Fun fact: After 5 years of teaching in a UK schools, I took a 9 month sabbatical to use my savings to complete a personal goal; riding a bicycle 10,000km from Patagonia to Colombia following the history and politics of six incredible nations along the way. It was everything I'd dreamed of and more.
I've recently relocated to Montreal with my partner and so have started French lessons with an aim to go from no capacity to speak towards fluency within the next couple of years. I'm a strong advocate of the idea that hard work whilst maintaing a growth mindset lead to success. So please feel free to test me on my French if you know any - I need all the help I can get!
I have 10 years' experience as a Teacher of History and Politics in UK schools. I have held Head of History & Politics and Head of Year 12 roles for several years and have developed an excellent understanding of the academic and pastoral support essential to each student's success.
I have taught thousands of students from a variety of backgrounds and abilities, from KS3-KS5 (GCSE & A-Level). Over half of my 2026 GCSE History class (12 students) received grade 8 or 9 and many A Level students have achieved A and A* grades in both Politics and History.
I believe in an individual-focused approach that considers students' personal ambitions and interests beyond exam results. I am fascinated by current affairs and the lessons we can learn from the study of history and believe that cultivating curiosity and open mindedness is the best way to unlock each student's potential
