About Me

I grew up in Ireland and made my way through several countries as a journalist and linguist, then ended up in South Africa reporting on apartheid. Once democracy came, I decided to stay and began to study further, business studies and psychology, which has always fascinated me. I completed a mini-MBA, and an MSc in Applied psychology, and various other qualifications, and I think they all complement each other. I've done some very interesting work for the UN in conflict, and policy research for governments and international agencies which have (sometimes) led to good changes. I really like working with people from everywhere, and I especially enjoy supporting people through advanced studies. It can be tough and people need all the help they can get. I am a lifelong learner and avid reader, fiction (mostly scifi) and nonfiction (mostly economics and psychology).

Tutor Experience

I have tutored three Masters students through their theses, one for Goldsmiths in London for an MA, two for the University of Cape Town, one in Gender Studies, and one in Political Studies. I have also coached groups in research skills, as well as in business management. I have run group coaching session for the University of the Witwatersrand for over two years for PhD graduates focusing on the world of work. I have also supported undergraduate students in their dissertations. I have taught business studies, research methods, research and academic writing, politics and applied psychology. I have undertaken most of this online since 2020 and am qualified by the University of Ontario in online counselling.

Currently I am supporting two students undertaking an MBA and one undertaking a Masters in Psychology, online, one internationally. I am supporting three research projects for international NGOs, one on diversity, one on gender equality, and one on conflict identification. I have been working (and studying) online since 2010 and I am well equipped for online tuition with reliable connectivity and the necessary equipment and software needed. My counselling skills and training in online counselling make the tuition experience positive and encouraging for my students. I am also supporting graduate research teams on a number of research projects across various topics.

I have participated in and/or supported/coached/ trained and guided over 400 research, strategy and policy studies across multiple topics for Universities, Governments, International NGOs and multinational businesses.

Topic Expertise

Psychology is my core area of expertise along with Business Studies, its an odd combination but it works as my work is in policy research as well as tutoring. All academic skills related to research, term papers, thesis and dissertations across a number of topics are strong, and I have a lot of experience in these areas. This would include statistics, analysis, academic writing, research methods and more.

Most of my work has been at Masters level or above, but I have also supported people at undergraduate level doing term papers, and Honours papers.
